This piece stuck out of me because of how modernly digital it looks, even when made out of completely analog materials in a time before cyber-aesthetic was even dreamt of. The motion and shape of the lights is something more akin to the visuals of TRON than anything else of it's time.

Darkness bleeds over a small square room. Tiny pixels of light reflect a galaxy of stars. I enjoyed this exhibit because it felt like an emotional metaphor: You can only see light where there is darkness. I feel as though I only know happiness and love because of the emotional turmoil of dark times I have experienced.

Sine Curve Man by Charles Csuri (1967)

This self-portrait is the first figurative representation in art using a computer from the US. Csuri uses math almost like a drawing utensil, rather than an additional tool to assist markmaking. he used an IBM computer from the 60s that was used by NASA by their space missile programme. After storing the data on punch cards, Csuri fed the data to be plotted on a silkscreen.

I chose this piece because I love printmaking, and was drawn to the blue ink and slight distortion of the figure. reading about how the marks were made added to its futuristic aesthetic. it makes me think about how the interaction of humans and computers can be visually represented, by displaying a human form but translating it through sine equations.

Alberto Biasi's Light Prisms (1966)

To be completely transparent, I chose this artwork because it reminded me of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album cover.

After I did my research I learned that this art work uses small motors to rotate the crystals, so technically they are "programmed" but not predictable.

I chose the piece called 2 Warps and Wefts of Shorts lines 0° 90°. I chose this because I think it really showcases its use of technology. Morellet incorporated scientific methods into this piece. The piece is almost run in a way that becomes out of control of the programmer, which I thought related to our current situation with AI. AI has a brain of its own and doesn’t need to be programmed step-by-step anymore.

I was drawn to the playful and active nature of this piece; it felt alive, like it was performing a dance of some sort in communion with the space and light. I adored the iridescent glow that the spectator could pick up on if their gaze was narrowed in on the source of light. It created a similar effect as looking at the sun; I definitely saw spots for a bit after leaving this piece. I was pleased to read the description of the piece and artist, finding that he is a poet and performance artist who was inspired by sunlight passing through trees. How lovely to have a piece of technological art inspired by nature.

If I had to write an AI prompt:

Dream Machine - Brion Gysin

On the description panel for this piece there is an instruction: "Try closing your eyes to enjoy this artwork." This unexpected direction transformed the experience of this piece, brought the (already quite visually stunning) artifact to a new level - an artificial rendering of a sensory experience nearly everyone knows but might not be able to place - sunlight through closed eyelids. I'm interested in filmmaking, but I don't think that there would be a way to capture this experience with video. This piece replicates, and therefore highlights, a beautiful shared memory. In tandem with his spoken word/poem auditory piece on the opposite wall, Gysin's use of sensory experiences evokes the familiar but unrecognized parts of our brains/memories.

To begin with， the fact it initially projects white light, but with technology and electronics, it creates rainbow beams, which are very amazing. Besides, the dancing beams of light, which utilize the laws of physics - reflection and refraction - are very intriguing to me. Last but not least, the rotation of the four prisms keeps the dynamic artwork constantly changing and I could see the artwork differently from various perspectives, leaving me curious and immersed as to what it would look like next.

I chose this artwork because it immediately caught my eye, as if the colors and shapes were dancing on the canvas. The red background delivers a powerful emotional impact, while the blocks of grey, pink, orange, white, and yellow create rhythm and balance within this intensity. Every time I look at it, I seem to discover new details, and this sense of depth draws me in.

The piece makes me think about the coexistence of order and chaos. It’s both precise and full of vitality, as if expressing a hidden life force within geometry. It prompts me to reflect on how something structured can also be warm and emotional.

What I want to choose is a painting with very childish brushstrokes in the first exhibition hall. The opposite cabinet shows the artist's creation process. I probably know that the creator himself made a program through programming, which then sent painting instructions to a machine, and he used this technique to draw large-scale murals in Amsterdam in 1977. My selfish thought is that an artist may give up painting for a short time and study programming and other skills, but then he thinks that he can combine his own program with painting, so that he does not have to give up painting, so he returns. I think it's a very special combination, and maybe it's no longer special when the artist comes up with it,

but he's the one who pioneered it in the first place, and that's great and special

Permutation of Six by Mary Martin was the artifact that absolutely caught my eye. I choose this artifact because of the strategic and mathematical algorithm displayed through printmaking. I am doing a work study at Penland School of Craft in April where we will be using mathematics to create patterns through printmaking. To create the patterns in which Mary Martin did, you must be able and ready to use precise and exact measurements for each Permutation. I was drawn to this work because of the geometric algorithm. There are 720 Permutations and Mary Martin took 36 parts and collaged them in a square 6 by 6. 6 is my favorite spiritual number because it represents balance and embracing self expression. Me being an artist, I express my imagination through clay and sculpture.

The reason I pick the piece "Electro-Magnetic Music" is that among a multitude of works dominated by visual elements, this one focus on sound ,which immediately caught my attention. The piece operates through the switching of electro magnets, with needles striking wires and the sounds are amplified through speakers, Its sound frequency os random, and the resulting sound is similar to an electric guitar. and the minimalist design of its appearance also give me sense of comfort.

Wen Ying Tsai's combined mechnics electronics and optics form kinetic works responding to their environments. He applied his artwork to create strobe lights. When clapping, singing, or playing music out loud these vibrations interact with the artwork. The cybernetic sculpture square tops reflect off his scientific innovations are oriented to serve humanity. This shows effective means of delivering us from our present environmental chaos into a world of dynamic ecological equilibrium. The square top showcases metal cods with a stroboscopic effect creates an illusion of slow undulating movement. Then when the room is silent the system returns to its homeostatic state.

this artworks reminds me of "animal well", one of the best independent game nominees of TGA this year.in this world that pursues game quality and 3D realistic experience, we are still shocked by small-scale games with only 33mb,players can obtain 100 collections by solving puzzles.Interestingly ,developer feels that many classic old games were made under the conditions of hard ware limitations, and they can prove that restrictions often breed creativity. Instead of creating artwork, I guess people are more using technology to ask the future:"is the weird thing a work of art?" So, how might we define "the ninth art"(especially video games)?

My favorite artwork is White Field by Gunther Vecker.He hammered the nails onto a canva ,which appears to move as the viewer changes position.

I really like the special visual effects and process the work produce.His imitation of automated process is not only the inflection of the traditional industry,it is also a exploration of the future. I think this is a naive attempt of technology and art in an era where technology is not yet advanced.He wondered how the traditional industry and the emerging industry can have a balance.It’s interesting when we look back today where technology is developed.

The art installation that impressed me the most was Brlon Gysin's Dreamachine. Dreamachine is an innovative project that combines art, science and technology. Brlon Gysin aims to explore the inner world of human beings through visual and auditory stimulation, and use flashing light to create moving illusions, patterns and colours in the audience's minds. This is the first art object to be seen with the eyes closed. I think the perspective of "seen with the eyes closed" is very novel and unique. It is an opposing and contradictory perspective. When I closed my eyes in front of the device, I could feel the light flash quickly in front of my eyes. All kinds of fragments came to my mind, which are the real thoughts in my heart. It's similar to walking around. It is the joint action of kinetic energy, electrical energy and force energy that makes this art installation. It is the blessing of technology that has such a great art.

Although the exhibition is filled with dazzling light and shadow installations, these two adjacent works are my favorites. My gaze flows between them as if walking from a white beach to a blue coastline. Their subtle visual connection creates a sense of natural flow within the space.

Mack uses reflective materials like mirrors and stainless steel to manipulate light, creating ever-changing effects, while Uecker’s nail arrangement blends regularity with randomness, evoking natural order. Viewers must adjust their distance and perspective to fully appreciate the works, experiencing deeper physical perception and reflecting on the relationship between the individual and space.

What I find most moving about this piece is her canvas appear so lively, with various shapes competing for space. While her creations often seem spontaneous, full of freedom and whimsy, a closer look reveals a strict underlying structure, with the composition carefully controlled. The seemingly random and irregularly curved lines are, in fact, deliberate and purposeful.

I find it compelling when art is interdisciplinary, as it becomes relatable and appealing to audiences beyond the traditional art field. From this work, I interpreted that the digital age can sometimes create a disconnect between technology and reality, symbolized by the irregularities and breaks in the patterns. However, it also demonstrates how STEM, specifically math and technology can serve as a powerful medium for artistic expression.

Four Double Mirrors

The artefact I chose from the exhibition was one of the Four Double Mirrors in the blue and red pixel room. The work is by Aegentinian artist Julio Le Parc, exposed on 1996-2016. The mirrors are made of wood and plastic, and have surfaces that fragment the viewers perception. The reason I chose this work is because I think that, as reflected by the mirror, our own perception of self and the meaning of being human definitely can become distorted under the influence of technology. Whether it's a matter of body image or even devices used in the body (e.g. cyborgs, TED talk "I listen to color").

This installation consisted of streams of light being projected through a series of perforated sculptures, creating a mesmerising constellation. The artist in question described space as an intensity of light which made me think of elemental pleasures and the power of emotion. I liked the balletic dance between reflection and refraction. It made ask: How might we fuse the sensorial with the solar to create dynamic forms of artistic expression?

I chose White Fields (1964) by Gunther Uecker as my piece. I was initially drawn to the simplicity of it that contrasted the dramatic and almost overwhelming light, sound, color, and movement of many of the other pieces. An overall theme I found in all of the pieces and how they combined to form different atmospheres in each room centered around dark versus light, movement vs stillness, and the feelings of either anxiety or calm that can be created by these things. I thought it was interesting how it mirrors the way that technology is capable of bringing out either feelings of unease or even fear, or feelings of familiarity and comfort. White Fields was a combination of all of these elements. The white color of the entire piece brings about that feeling of ease and comfort while the nails invoke feelings of unease. The way that the nails were positioned cast shadows both within the piece and along the walls around it, highlighting the contrast of bright light and shadow without having any real technology incorporated into the piece directly. I also thought about how the use of such rudimentary tools (hammer and nails) showcased the origins of technology and what we started out with to be able to get to the more flashy aspects of it. I think all of this represents a sort of collaboration of elements to create one piece which reminds me of the way that artists, engineers, and more have collaborated to create technology, pieces of art, buildings, and every step in human history to get us to where we are now.

The architecture of the building also stood out in relation to this piece. While the museum showcases modern art, its architecture seems to be more rudimentary. The exposed beams with large nails that stick out in obvious ways and the harsh concrete contrast the more modern color and high technology of the pieces within it. So, I really liked how this piece also tied into the atmosphere of the building that it lies in.

My favorite piece

Her works, characterized by concentric circles and contrasting colors, create mesmerizing optical illusions that seem to pulsate and shift before the viewer's eyes. That’s a huge reason why I chose her work. This dynamic interplay of form and perception directly engages with how the brain processes visual information.

Her works capitalize on the brain's tendency to seek patterns and create meaning from visual stimuli. The repetitive circular motifs and contrasting colors induce a state of perceptual instability, challenging the viewer's ability to perceive a stable image. The brain, constantly seeking to make sense of the fluctuating patterns, creates a sense of movement and depth where none truly exists.

Furthermore, Apollonio's use of color and light further amplifies this effect. The juxtaposition of contrasting colors and the interplay of light and shadow create a sense of visual transience, with the appearance of the artwork constantly shifting and evolving. This dynamic interplay of light and color not only engages the viewer's visual system but also evokes a sense of wonder and disorientation.

There are many messages or themes that I gravitate too in this image. The advertisement itself touches on the idea of and active lifestyle while fusing individuality through personality and beauty. Here we can see in the tire. I love the tow couple across from the street holding each other. Their relationship is directly paralleled to each other. They are separated by a road that can symbolize time, space, or any other barrier we may face as humans when it comes to loving each other. The couple in front of the last (in my own head) shows that throughout the space and continuum of time the barriers won’t matter and we can continue to love one another. London is such a diverse place that brings people together and that is in my own hopes is what this image captures.
