I used to work as a Costume Assistant on a popular Irish Television programme called  Ros Na Run for five years from the ages of 23-27. Clothes were absolutely pivotal to me in terms of self expression and they were projections of dreams fantasies and realisations. 
Contextually speaking, the telling of a story through clothes requires you to decipher scripts and break down that script in to demographics  and include relevant snippets of information for the audience. This is vital in establishing the role of any character.  it is Imbued with colour pattern and textural significance and all these elements go in to creating a unique wardrobe.  This is dictated by the script and a Director but is vital to be aware of materials and fabrics and have an innate ability to understand a directors vision for the character. It is up to the Costume Team to present alternatives but more importantly to have a clear vision for that character.
My own wardrobe is an entirely different affair. I was lucky enough to work in a very light airy organised space and even luckier when I went to Art College to work in the same wooden flowers architraves  high ceilings views over the lake big windows  in "Wuthering Heights" landscape . 
 It was very  romantic but with a decadence that suited the climate which meant utilitarian function and also reflected the colours of the surrounding lake. I was influenced by Pierra Della Francescas " A Dream Of Constantin"  and that complementary colour palette still resonates. After College, decluttering had become a huge lifestyle movement and initially with some reluctance, it was a concept that I embraced and my rule is items are given to charity if  anything new comes in to my wardrobe. My Mother kept me beautifully dressed as a child, but it is safe to say , my own taste would have differed greatly as a teenager. "The Cure" "Morrisey" "Leonard Cohen" were all my favourite bands and wearing paisley blouses black tassle skirts velvet flares were more my thing. I transitioned well in to a neutral palette of late.  I teach Art and some of the students regard black as funereal and austere. i still love black but neuteal colours do charge the atmosphere slightly differently. it does evoke a sense of calm and restfulness. the switch from disorganised chaos in my own wardrobe has served me well and psychologically sets me up for the day.

This combined with handmade elements of cardboard ankle pieces tied with twine( a natural element) reflects ethnic diversity and also reinforces the frayed edges that seep in to fashion when the line of ethics fails to resonate. The dried lotus flowers
 a symbol for beauty and fragility reflect a commitment to ethical sources and its medicinal properties are a symbol for healing.
