Eastman is a book about a baby bird who leaves his nest in search of his mother.  My students enjoy the silly encounters the baby bird has as he asks other animals if they are his mother.  This storybook pairs nicely with the nonfiction book Mama Built a Nest, and would lend itself well to a unit on nests or the life cycles of different animals.

Students are fascinated by each step of the process.  This is great to use if children are about to go on a trip or have recently traveled on a plane. The text is simple but the illustrations engage children and provide a lot of pictures that can support oral language and vocabulary development.
