They used farming as their main source of food. They would eat maize/corn and Pumpkin. They farmed on a much larger scale than anyone ever had at that time. They were honestly the first true farmers. This ended up changing the course of human History for the better. Making them more sophisticated. Leading them to build economy's and improving health. Farming caused them to live longer. It helped them not be as barbaric as the previous Tribes. Which made them more of a modern society.

Even Though they used farming as their main source of food They would still hunt. They used bows and arrows making it easier to hunt. They would hunt deer primarily. A lot of the older tribes relied on hunting a lot causing them to be more nomadic. Hunting slowly came out of the Indian culture, Because it was not a stable source of food. Once they built large scales villages hunting was almost complete out of the society, Because they were no longer nomadic and stayed in one place Their whole life.

They would make pottery to hold their food and eat out of. Pottery was a big part of their culture. They were able to keep food longer causing them to not starve as much. They Would end up making stone axes and other stone tools That were a lot more effective than other materials. These new tools helped with farming and hunting helping them to be better as a civilization. Causing them to make larger strides to modern times at that period of time. They were still behind, But made strides none the less.

They had large burial mounds were they would put people after they died. This was a sign that they believed in some type of afterlife. These Burial mounds can still be seen till this day. Burial mounds show a lot about how the Indian tribes had changed Because they started to bury their own people showing some sort of belief and honestly a respect for their people. In the past they would just get rid of the bodies and not think about it. Then they started burying them and giving them honor and thinking about a afterlife.

The would set up large scale villages. They were not Nomadic like most of the other Indian Tribes. Which meant they would stay in one place almost all the time. They built large walls around their whole village to stay safe. The more prominent people in the villages would live higher on hills in stuff which started to show some type of politics with some people with more power than others. Which is some way of them showing steps toward modern sophistication.
