For every holiday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Birthdays the Family always pulls out our Karaoke machine. It is a pretty fun time with all of us trying to sing and filling my moms house with all our decent vocals. When playing karaoke we always put on Country music, 80's music and Mexican music. The main songs that bring us all together is "Neon Moon" - Brooks & Dunn and "Adios Amor"- Christain Nodal, when those songs come on my family and I just turn it up loud on our speakers and get in a circle and start singing our hearts out. My family also likes to dance so sometimes we just let someone keep singing while the others start dancing or we just putting music on and just dance. I have had a lot of experience with presentational music-making, I was in band from 6th grade up until the ending of my first semester in college which I played with the Green Brigade Marching Band at University of North Texas. In school I would do marching and concert, I enjoyed them both the same. Marching part was fun and exciting because we would practice for many hours to perform at the football games during the half time show, and just having a lot of fun. Concert part was also very exciting, although it may seem a little boring since your just siting there in all black looking at all the people watching you. I liked playing the three different movements, the second movement was always my favorite because I got the solos. The second movements were always the one that made me enjoy it because it was the part that made concert and marching different. My experiences line up with the various reading because it us all very similar in what we have been reading.

The picture where I am wearing a black and gray jacket is from when I was in high school. The right hand side picture is from last year when I was in Green Brigade. I can say that participatory and presentational is both represented in marching band. In marching band you practice for hours, whether it be marching or the music. The music sometimes is fun music that you can dance to which is participatory or it can be presentational, just depending on the band director. On game day's its time to perform what you have been practicing for hours during the week and then later on in the semester its time to go to UIL to perform in front of judges.

When I was in high school I had asked my mom if I could spend the night at my friends house and she told me the only way I can go is if I were to start playing my trumpet at church. My mom was the choir director at church and she had been wanting me to play for a while but I never wanted to, but then since I wanted to stay with my friend I went ahead and did it, which it was not bad. Every Sunday I would be performing in front of hundred of people and not even realized it. So since I would do that I would perform at solo ensemble and I would do regional in band. Back in my junior year of high school I rehearsed a piece of music for solo ensemble. I can not remember what the name of the piece was, but when I went to solo ensemble I was told that I was very ambitious. The reason I choose that piece of music is because it was difficult, I wanted to challenge myself since I was not really being challenged in class and I choose it because it was a ranking of 1 which means that if I get a really good score on it then I will be able to get my Letterman jacket. I worked really hard because I wanted that jacket, wanted to show that someone from my school will be able to get a score of a 1 on there solo ensemble and because it would make me feel better in playing the trumpet.

That picture is not of me, I could not find one of me.

This is the year that I was in the UNT Green Brigade. The video was taken on the last game that we had before the bowl game. I have always loved being in marching band because it was always exciting, being able to show off your music skills and also your marching. People may say that marching band is not a sport but I would like to see everyone that says that to try arching band. When you're in a marching band your required to be drinking a lot of water just like every sport, exercise so you can hold your instrument up at the right position and so you can be able to stay up on your toes when you back march. You sweat so much when your at practice because it is very hot being outside in the sun practicing your marching, its not like we can be inside and practice because we need to be on a field so we can know exactly where we have to go to. In high school we would have to run at least once or twice around the field so we can warm-up and then even stretch because every practice cause if not we can get a cramp or be injured. Marching band is very intense and can be very much more intense depending on which school you go to or which drum corp you're in.

Neon Moon is an all time favorite song for my family. This song can come one and the whole family will come out and start singing and/or dancing. My family and I love music, were always dancing or singing like I said above. When Neon Moon comes on I do not really pay attention the lyrics, but right now when I was typing this I was listening to the song and I relate to it somehow. The song is about losing someone and how theirs a place for you. I have lost someone and now I am surrounded by friends that have lost someone as well. Everyone has a sad song story about losing someone, so I feel like this song is perfect for everyone.
