One of my favorite ways to use AI now is to research a place we are going to travel to. There are a lot of travel websites, and usually, I'm in a time crunch. Instead of starting my research in search, I start with ChatGPT to get a summary of the most popular places. Then, I look into each of those. I think of it as generating leads.

I am new to using AI and still learning all of the features and utility available. One way I have enjoyed using AI is for concept mapping and idea generation when I feel stuck. I also enjoy using it to support with providing timelines for accomplishing writing goals.

I use large language models to improve my projects. There are three specific uses that are particularly helpful: question refinement, iteration, and accelerating simple tasks. To obtain useful feedback from AI it is necessary to develop questions that are specific and precise, otherwise the returned information is not helpful. The process of questioning, evaluating the feedback, and refinement improves both my questions and clarity of thought. The iterative nature of this process is helpful in identifying new themes and questions. The ability to iterate using a tool asynchronously is particularly valuable when I’m not able to talk to colleagues. Finally large language model AI accelerates simple administrative tasks such as searches for lit reviews. While the feedback is not always helpful it is usually a good starting point.

I have used AI to help me summarize articles. I am a auditory learner, so at times I have a hard time reading really long articles and retaining all of the information. Using AI allows me to upload the articles and get a clear and consise summary with all the key points so I have notes to refer back to.

My favorite use of AI is to create visual representations of complex ideas. Similar to using AI for school, the process of defining an idea and specific visual elements to represent it clarify my thoughts. As a visual person who appreciates art, creating new images is rewarding, and rewarding in a way that is different from writing.
