Significance to Mexican history

It wasn't only significant for the fact that 4.000 Mexican soldiers defeated 8.000 French soldiers, but also because the French army had not been defeated for over 50 years. I was also significant because Mexico stayed under the Spanish influence. If the French would have won, Mexico would have been under the French influence instead. This would have caused a big impact on Mexico, and also the United States and other countries near Mexico.

He was brought to Mexico under false pretenses, the archduke of Austria thought his presence would be welcome by the people of Mexico, but truly wasn't. Maximilian was crowned Emperor on April 10, 1864. Both he and his wife immersed themselves in Mexico's culture, but without military support, the Maximilian monarchy was destined to fail.
