         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>-Using poetry as a means to allow ELLs to experiment with writing without having to focus too much on grammar or firm structure<br>-More collaborative tasks to encourage discussions and support for ELLs by other students<br>-Low pressure situations to practice language skills<br>-Brainstorming webs for journal writing topics (from video - "what makes a good friend?")<br>-Model writing first, don't just give instructions (although I think this could go in the middle as well - it is good to model for all students!)<br>-Link background knowledge and culture to learning<br>-Free writing opportunities where students get to practice writing skills outside of a high-stakes scenario (not marked etc.)<br>- Three Truths and a Lie - An activity where students get to write about personal information using vocabulary they are comfortable with</strong></div>]]></description>
