She was born in Texas. She was the first African American female pilot of an airplane. Born into a sharecropping family in Texas and grew up in Texas. Bessie Coleman was important for many reasons. One was because she was the first African American to be a pilot. She was also the first African American female pilot. She had obstacles to face like being female because many people were biased against her because she was female. Francis Lubbock was the governor of Texas for a while. He was even in office during the American Civil War. He was important to Texas because he was their ninth governor. In that position, he also helped Texas do well during the Civil War. He greatly impacted their economy during that time. He joined the Confederate Army after the end of this term in 1863. Was imprisoned for 8 months with John Reagan before being paroled.
