Curriculum Integration

Strategy 1: Use of Multicultural Literature
Incorporate books featuring characters and authors from diverse cultures. Select texts like Last Stop on Market Street or My Name is Yoon to spark discussion and empathy. Use these stories to explore themes of identity, heritage, and justice across content areas.

Strategy 2: Historical Inclusion
Teach major events from multiple cultural viewpoints. For example, present Indigenous perspectives on early American history or include Asian American voices when teaching about immigration. Encourage students to research underrepresented historical figures.

Strategy 3: Cross-Cultural Case Studies
Integrate case studies that highlight global practices in science, economics, and geography. For example, compare farming practices or climate change solutions across continents. This builds critical thinking and global awareness.

Strategy 4: Art and Music Across Cultures
Introduce visual art, instruments, and music genres from various countries. Connect them to historical movements or cultural celebrations. Let students create projects inspired by these art forms.

I will use instructional strategies that connect learning to my students’ cultural backgrounds by incorporating familiar stories, real-life examples, and community references into lessons, ensuring that every child sees their experiences and heritage valued in the classroom. I can do this by using real-life math connections with examples from students’ everyday lives. Counting snakes during snake time, passing out different snakes, and graphing students’ favorite snakes are being used. This helps keep students engaged and prepared to learn..
