Some traditions that are celebrated are Easter and Christmas. Some holidays celebrated in Russia are also celebrated in America. A more tradition holiday in Russia is Ivan Kupala. Ivan Kupala is the observance of the summer beginning. The article entitled Ivan Kupala Day says," In old times the magical and colorful Kupala Holiday was celebrated on June 24". This quote shows not only the date of the event but also that Ivan Kupala is a tradition that has been celebrated for years. Ivan Kupala is celebrated by those who are Orthodox but it is a well known holiday in Russia. Based on this our group thinks that Russian culture is an important part of life and religion imacts many people.

Russia is known for being the largest country in the whole world, it is slightly more that 1.8x the size of the U.S. Due to Russia"s size we think that it has a good economy because all of the people probably generate jobs. The major physical features of Russia are that it has the North European Plain and the West Siberian Plain. The mountain ranges in these areas are the Ural Mountains, the Caucasus Mountains, the Yablanovy Mountains, the Kolyma Mountains, and the Cherskogo Mountains. The physical features of the independent states is the North European Plain, the Volga River, the Dnieper River, the Ob River, the Carpathian River, the Ural Mountains, the Steppes, the West Siberian Plain, the Central Siberian Plateau, the Eastern Highlands, Sayan Mountains (Both, the East and West), the Caucasus Mountains, the Hindu Kush, the Caspian Sea, the Aral Sea, the Southern Russian Steppes, Lake Baikal, Lake Balkhash, the Sea of Azov, the Bering Sea, the Bering Straight, the Sea of Okhotsk, the Sea of Japan, the Arctic Ocean, the East Siberian Sea, the Laptev Sea, the Barents Sea, Kola Peninsula, the Kara Sea, the White Sea, and the Arctic Circle.

The men prefer sober, earthy tones and prefer to keep the look 'calm'. All Russians find black and white to be very elegant. They pick dark colors mainly due to the amount of dust and mud around. I agree with this because if you are in a dirty place you wouldnt wear a white shirt. White shirts are very easy to dirty. Russian women wear dresses or long skirts and blouses. The clothes they wear are bright colors. An article entitled "Traditional Russian Clothing" says," Russian costumes are not only beautiful, there are also convenient in wearing because they were created for work without restricting freedom of movement". Most Russian embroidery consist of shapes, patterns, and colors. I thing different patterns on clothinng make the piece very good-lookingDespite the territorial and social differences all traditional clothing shared one thing in common, they had to be put as a cape from the head. A sarafan is a long traditional Russian jumper dress. The Sarafan is primarily worn as a Russian folk costume by women and girls. Caption: Traditional Rusian clothing

Due to Russia's large size it is difficult to give a general climate and weather. The winters in Russia can get very cold. The snow usually starts to fall in early October. During the winter Russia has a climate of -30 degrees and below it can also have some very heavy snow fall. During the some months the country is warm and dry temperature during summer the easterly winds also are very powerful in Russia these winds can reach speeds of up to 750 mph. In the website "Weather Online" it states that, "The Western parts of Russia have the most rain (up to 750mm), the southern and southeastern areas in the Russian Steppes are the driest with an annual average below 200 mm. The Northern and Central Russia have the most varying temperature. To summarize Russia's temperature is typically very cold in most parts during the winter and during summer it becomes warmer.

Russians use roads, airplanes, and ships to transfer their goods from one place to another. They use different types of transportation to get around the Earth and ship its goods. The types of places they need to travel through is the ocean and highways. They use pretty much the same types of shipping transportation sources as the U.S. does this makes us think that the US and Russia have similar economies. Mostly, they use railroads though. One type of railroad that they use is the Trans-Siberian Railroad. One of the reasons they might not use roads as much to transport goods is because the road there is a huge challenge to get across. In addition to transporting goods within the country, goods are also exported. For example the website called Observatory give statistics of Russian exports. The website says that Russia's 5 main exports are " Crude Petroleum, Refined Petroleum, Petroleum Gas, Coal Briquettes, Semi-Finished Iron". This makes us think that Russia has lots of natural resources which can help them in trading and also boost their economy.

People in Russia changed the environment for the Sochi winter games. Although promising to keep the construction in harmony with nature much damage was done to the area surrounding Sochi. The article on Time website states that,"Instead, Sochi organizers have failed on all their green promises, says Suren Gazaryan, a zoologist and member of the environmental campaign group Environmental Watch of the North Caucasus (EWNC)". This quote shows that although proposing to keep the project "green" damage was still done. This is just one example of how Russians have impacted the environment to suit their needs. Another catastrophe was the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident. In an attempt to better themselves Russians built 4 nuclear reactors. By accident one reactor exploded causing radiation to leak out and even cause a radiation cloud over Europe.

During World War 1 no one wanted to come to Russia everybody wanted to escape the land. People want to do this because Russia was involved in the world war. It was very hard for people to live there
at the time. I understand this because no one wants to live in the middle if a war. I think life would be very hard with soldiers all around. This connects to the book "Number the Stars," in the book children were very scared of the soldiers. Now there are many advantages of living in Russia. According to the article the seven advantages of Russian educational system it states that Russia’s educational system has a higher standard of learning. For example the article states that 31 students from Russia entered mathematics, physics, and chemistry, biology, ecology, information and geography competitions. 29 students were claimed as international competition winners. this must mean the kids were very smart. This says that kids got a very good education taught by good teachers.

To begin we will talk about the relation Russia has with countries around it. This is considered social. According to the article,"Russian public think USA is No.1 enemy – poll" it states that the most people in Russia think USA is their biggest threat and that China is their best friend. Sociologists have found that their are different attitudes that Russia is giving to Germany. The polls have found that 1% of Russia think that Germany is a friendly country. India, Argentina and Brazil were also put in the “friends” list. This makes us think that Russia is a very wavering country when it comes to relationships with other countries. The next area is Russia's economic status. According to the website entitled CNBC,"The economy is so unstable and will not survive at the current pace. And Russia does not make anything on its own". Based on this quote we can conclude that Russia doesn't export anything so they don't make any profit. This is very bad because if they constantly spend money one goods they will never make any money. In addition we also think that the key to having a stable government is that the country has a stable economy. Our last topic is Russia's political status. The website entitled Russiapedia says,"The President is the head of state and is elected by popular vote every six years for a maximum of two consecutive terms. The original constitution had four-year presidential terms, but this was amended to six years by parliament late in 2008". This makes us think that despite having weak connections to other countrues and a lack of trading Russia has a strong government.
