Along with that, predators and hackers may be able to get your location through posts.

It is important to be able to command oneself professionally on the Internet. Being able to respect other people on the internet, as well as follow the rules of digital citizenship and netiquette is very important. Students must learn at a young age what they can and cannot share on the internet or even with friends. An example of that would be learning to not share a password with someone even if they are your best friend. The Internet is forever, is a term that many use to show the importance of thinking before you post. I picked the lesson about balance on the Internet and showing interest in other activities like hanging out with friends because in our society technology is the main source of entertainment now. I want my students to understand that there is a whole world with opportunities and fun activities out there! One should not be just confined to their screens but learn about the environment around them. I know that many students today are growing up with shows like Cocomelon, and the term "iPad kids" has started coming up more and more often. Many parents have been giving their children iPads as a way to parent, which is how they coined the term "iPad Kids". Many shows like Cocomelon, which have many bright colors and quick cuts to keep children drawn in, are overstimulating and will later cause them to have more mental breakdowns. By being able to teach students to balance through the lesson, I hope, will show them that digital screen time, and thinking before posting are important and should be taken seriously.

I never really considered how easy it is to teach children these skills. I always thought that these topics were supposed to be taught to older elementary students and middle school students but never really thought about starting to teach these lessons to Kindergarten students. Now realizing it is super important to start these lessons off at a younger age so they have heard these same rules their whole lives, and that it almost becomes second nature.

The research I completed for this project confirmed teaching these lessons to children at a younger age. It helped me realize that everyone should learn these life lessons, which in turn strengthened my point of view about netiquette and digital citizenship.

I learned a lot about netiquette through this project, and I realized I knew a lot less about the Internet than I thought I did. I grew up in a time when the Internet was still small, and it was not used by everyone. This assignment made me realize how important it is for students to learn how to be safe online, as children today are constantly online, especially after the lockdown with Covid-19. Even outside of doing school work, students are online playing video games or talking with friends, and it is important for them to realize that the Internet can be a dangerous place.

Prior to doing this research I did not consider how many do's and don'ts were included in netiquette, as I was not taught them when I was younger. I was given an Instagram account when I was in 4th grade, and I would post whatever I wanted, without realizing that those posts would stay online forever, even after being deleted. I never considered how many do's and don'ts were required to have good netiquette, and I wish that I had been taught the information when i was younger.

This research has confirmed my point of view that netiquette is important for young students to learn, and that learning good netiquette may save students from "bad people" online. After doing this research I have much more information to help teach my students good netiquette than I did prior, and it has only confirmed that I must teach my students about the dangers of being online.
