We can make new ELL students feel welcome, accepted, and supported in their classrooms by making sure they know the basics. For example, making sure they have a partner that can help them with their transition, teach them basic phrases (hello, goodbye, I don't understand, etc), and providing initial support in the classroom (ex. picture dictionary). There is many other things along with these that would make ELL feel welcomed.

One area that my school does well is the interconnectedness of the teacher, support personnel, and inner/outer services made available to ELL students. The majority of students at my school are ELL which has made my school really need to have a real grasp on what can best be done for each student. Whether it is the classroom teacher (ex. myself), Educational Assistant(s), Learning Support Team (LST), etc. All of us work on and alongside each other in creating a plan that can help each and everyone of our students be successful. Emails, in-person meetings, check-ins, in-class/out-of-class support is created an effective way to help each ELL student with their learning.

One area that needs more attention at my school is being inclusive: reflecting the community. This is not to say that my school does nothing, quite the opposite, as we are always trying to build bridges with the many different backgrounds. I chose this as needing more attention as I feel like more is being down in the classrooms then that of the school as a whole. Coming back to the idea of signs in the school being in various languages of the learners within the school. I think this would be a rather simple, cost-effective, and interesting way for all students to learn new words and things they did not know before. I'm also unsure if my school provides their notices in multiple languages which would make the teacher's life much easier when it comes to trying to explain to ELL students/parents important information.
