"Echo Mountain," by Lauren Wolk, took place in Maine during the Great Depression in 1934. During this time the Great Depression was happening and Ellie's family lost her house and had to leave their home town. Because, in the 1930s a lot of people couldn't afford such things like bills, food, housing, etc. Ellie and her family were living paycheck to paycheck and then when they didn't have enough, they were forced out.

And went looking for a way to survive until the world tipped back to well ”(Wolk, pg.12).This sentence explains how they lost everything and wanted their house and their old life back again.

I have learned so much more about the struggle of money back in the Great Depression and how hard it was for people. It was really a struggle for people to live paycheck to paycheck with bills because of how low their wage was. It was honestly very concerning for the kids and teens and even for the adults. You never knew what was going happen. The adults had to beg for jobs back and the kids even had to beg as well. I now understand the story a little bit more because of the struggle and imagine the constant moving for all the families as well.
