So far, I have learned that thirteen year old Samuel lives with his parents on the edge of the wilderness in the British colony of Pennsylvania, far away from any civilization. Samuel loves to hunt and loves to explore the woods whenever he gets the chance to. 
Characters: 
Samuel: very good at hunting and has learned to be on his own since he was young because his parents don't pay too much attention to him. 
Mom: is always worried about Samuel but allows him to do his thing because she knows that he is able to take care of himself. 
Dad: wasn't introduced as much as the mom has been but he is a hard worker and does whatever he can to take care of the family. ​
Comment on author: I think that Gary Paulsen is a very good author, I have read another one of his books before this one and i enjoyed it a lot. Gary paulsen writes his books in 3rd person omniscient.
