(Hao Ting)

in sdp, one of our core values is to put people before profits. i understand that the rationale behind raising gst is to keep the economy driven given its slowdown during this pandemic. however, in this tough times of the covid 19 situation, the socio-economic landscape of singapore has been largely affected. due to pay cuts and retrenchment of workers, there is prevalence of exacerbated income and income inequality. as such, we say our yes to suspending the GST during this covid-19 crisis. the gst is a regressive tax and will hurt the poor more than the rich. as such, when the economy is suffering during this pandemic, from an economics perspective, it may not be smart to raise the gst as it will only result in struggling businesses to be left in the dust. as such, we want to put a stop to this exploitation of the current government to raise the gst despite the plight of the citizens. do you even care for your people? are you even thinking for the welfare of your citizens? (ernest)

-I thing I think my party stands for (indicate your name and then your individual response)

My party stands for providing retirees over 65 with $500 income every month who are in the bottom 80 percent of wage earners. (Darius)

sdp wants to create equal opportunities for all singaporeans, and build a society where singaporeans do not constantly struggle with the cost of living. (Claire)

4) 1 question related to ethics in the 2020 elections (indicate your name and then your individual response):
- Is it ethical for political parties to leverage on the Covid 19 situation and the vulnerability of the nation to drive their own political agenda? (Hao ting)

i would like to question the ethics of pofma. while i do understand the ubiquity of fake news in the media, the current government has taken extreme measures in curbing this. pofma allows the government to decide what they deem as false information and should be removed, therefore able to have ultimate control over what is shown to the public. this has allowed pap (the current government) to portray themselves in a positive light, as us oppositions are unable to express our viewpoints of the flaws in current governance without it being taken down. as such, i question the intention of pofma, do you really care for the interests of the people? or are you simply doing this for the sake of defending your reputation? (ernest)

-1 question related to ethics in the 2020 elections (indicate your name and then your individual response):

Was it really ethical for parties(the PAP especially) in making police reports on certain opposition party members for the sake of undermining the opposition and creating gutter politics?(Darius)

is it ethical for the general public to treat politicians like celebrities, even if it's as a joke? They believed that Singaporeans should be entitled to better paying jobs, or first class jobs termed by Mr Lim Tean. Many Singaporeans have been struggling to secure quality jobs due to stiff competition by foreign workers and thus the PV aims to freeze these working passes to foreigners such that Singaporeans will no longer feel like second-class citizens within their home country. Furthermore, during this time of the pandemic, where the economy is going through a recession, securing jobs are the priority and the PV have made a crucial proposal to restore quality jobs to Singaporeans. (Ezeck)

- a stronger emphasis on what the people want and to compromise more with the people in order to explore the best options for Singapore’s future. Currently, the PAP takes a firm stance that policies enacted “must be right and not necessarily be popular”. While this is not an inherently wrong stance, it dismisses the voice of those who may negatively impacted by such a policy in the name of progress (eg.) banning of PMDs. With PV, a larger emphasis will be placed on the general populations opinions. (Brandon)

4) 1 question related to ethics in the 2020 elections (indicate your name and then your individual response):
- is it ethical for parties to slander one another (which has occurred many times) to gain support or should they aim to convince people that they are the right choice without putting other parties down? (ashley)

- the PAP have been toying with the use of POFMA throughout this GE, to either defend themselves or criticise other political opposition, albeit not explicitly stated as using this POFMA policy, but instead calling many claims false and baseless. Thus, the question is should POFMA be used in this election to gain a political advantage and paint the opposition as propagating untruths, gutter politics, when the true intentions of POFMA should be used during critical episodes of falsehoods which targets a division in society? (Ezeck)

- is it ethical for the ruling party to change electoral boundaries to ensure that they have a higher chance of winning the vote for a particular constituency (brandon)
