I picked this image because the walls shown are from the 4th centruy BCE. Samarkand is one the oldest cities in Central Asia and served as a link between China, Persia, and Europe. This image represents its importance throughout time and there is no exact date for when it was founded.

I picked this image because it encapsulates the important qualities of the city. This city has faced invasion from the mongols, earthquakes, and other attacks making it impressive that it has been able to be rebuilt in the modern day. The city is an important place for agriculture which is also seen in the fertile soil around the city.

I picked this image because one of the most defining parts of the city is religion. The diversity of religions throughout time is the most interesting to me as Zoroastrasim, Buddhism, and a "Bactrian religion" all existed here. Furthermore, there were ancient Jewish communities along with Muslims that came along with the Arab conquests.
