Fashion and the geo:

Commodity chains are an important facet of geography and fashion. Clothing reveals connections between people from manufacturing to purchase, enhancing globalisation. Exploration of these commodity chains reveal socioeconomic inequalities, the consumerism prevalent in capitalism, climate destruction etc. and finds a way to show human connectedness within global politics.

"new world in dress":

The emphasis on Eurocentric clothing defining fashion and its history is weakening with globalisation. As different cultures are made visible through mediums like anthropological studies and the internet, what was seen as 'traditional' clothing now represents generations of culture and history and is being afforded the same cognisance and visibility.

5 impulses:

I think queering fashion allows the idea of neutral fashion to foster. Western fashion has worked on a strict gender binary dictating who can wear what, which often reveals intersectional inequalities tying into race, status, and class. Clothing exacerbated traditional gender ideologies gender. A more queer approach allows onlookers to view fashion and clothing as material, art, and culture, not used as representation of gender. Allowing more freedom in clothing expression aligns more with non-Western fashion histories and can challenge discriminatory gender roles.
