I love that he reinforces the importance of showing respect to each other. I also love how he described teachers! Are you a runner, jogger, walker, or rider! I encourage all to buy his books! In line with my students this morning, we discussed our school's mission and brainstormed how even our behavior in the hallway can show our mission. The kids loved that!

I have used a few of his quick brain breaks (this week we tried thumb wars) to break up a longer writing assignment and then got right back to work. The kids loved it! He had so many ideas and affirmed my belief that you can change behavior when you create positive relationships with your students. And I have thought about his ritual vs novelty conversation and the importance of the two at our different levels of teaching. He was an inspiration and I would love to have Dan speak to all of our faculty and parents! For our lower el teacher's he has weekly podcasts that you can check out!

I was very impressed by Dave Mochel ideas on how we pay attention. The idea of teaching our students "how to pay attention" is a skill that both parents and teachers need to pass on to this generation of children. We can't just say "stay focused" and assume our students will, we need to take moments out of our lessons and redirect them. I already tried it as students needed to transition into another activity and it worked very well.
-Kimia Ebeling

I will make time for Mindfulness activities in my classroom. I learned so much from Christine Wallach's presentation and am inspired to learn more. My big take-aways were: Mindfulness training is worth the time. There are benefits for both students and teachers. Students learn how to make their actions intentional instead of impulsive. Teachers learn to respond to stressors instead of react.
