2.Korean War

The war increased in 1950, the U.S. supported South Korea. In late June North Korea invaded South Korea. The U.S. sent troops to support South Korea. This method was "Military aid".

3.US detonates its first Hydrogen bomb

4.Bay of Pigs

In 1961 in response to the Cuban Revolution, John F. Kennedy supported the invasion of Cuba with Anti-Castro supporters. 5.Cuban Missile Crisis

October 1962, was a 13 day political and military standoff between the U.S. and Soviet Union over nuclear missiles in Cuba. Method used Negotiations.

6.US sends troops to Vietnam

500,000 U.S. troops deployed by 1969, sparking a lot of anti-war protests. North and South Vietnam were both involved.

7.Pinochet’s coup in Chile

Sep 11, 1973 General Augusto Pinochet led a military coup that overthrew Allende. Pinochet then created a brutal military dictatorship. Anti-communist stance stood until 1990.

8.Nixon’s detente policy/SALT I

This was a policy pursed by the U.S. It aimed at easing the tensions between the U.S. and communist rivals, Soviet Union and China. (Dente means relaxation in French). Salt I is an agreement on strategic offensive arms, it froze ICBMs and SLBMs for five years.

9.Soviet invasion of Afghanistan

Leonid Brezhnev ordered an invasion to stabilize. Included the killing of Karmal who was president. They could not control the entire country due to lack of preparation against guerrilla tactics.
