This text is a poem from Charles Causley. He was born in Cornwall and he began writing in the Navy during World War II. He was a teacher and was fascinated by the theme of lost innocence and the mystery of growing up.
The poem is about a child, whose sister left home a night. The child asks his/her mother a lot of questions about what has happened to her. The mother doesn't have any answers and she are sad as well.
The main character is a child, boy or girl.
Aspects of growing up: Lulu ran off, probably with her boyfriend, so that is something about growing up and being independent and free which can also be themes.
