Some of its common functions also include correcting grammar; cutting, copying and pasting text; italicising, boldening, underlining, crossing out text; inserting multimedia; creating tables; saving, editing and printing documents. They shouldn't be confused with text editors, because the latter work with only plain text, not giving the user any ability to format it.  
Despite being a formatting tool, word processors aren't great for 
designing the layout of the page and decorating it. E.g.: Apache Writer, Corel WordPerfect, MS Word, Pages. Common text formats include:
odf, docx, rtf etc.
