Applications are now open for fully funded, part-time Step in2 Pre-Apprenticeship Programme— a practical course designed to help learners build skills in Engineering or Customer Service, while also developing the confidence and workplace abilities that employers value. The programme offers a supportive pathway into apprenticeships or employment, and includes the opportunity to resit English and Maths if needed.

The Open Day is an opportunity to find out more about being a student at Furness College, what they offer and where your education and training could lead you to.

Furness College offer a wide range of vocational, technical and professional courses, T Levels, apprenticeships and higher education courses at their Channelside campus. Colleagues from The Sixth Form will also be available to discuss A Levels and other Sixth Form options.

The Open Day is great for if you’re in Year 9 and thinking about your GCSE options, Year 10 and 11 and looking for knowledge or inspiration for your next steps.

🔆 In celebration of National Apprenticeships Week, BAE are promoting some of our apprenticeship opportunities still available to apply for this year at BAE Systems Submarines in Barrow, starting September.

👷‍♀️👷Lots of opportunities available in Craft, Manufacturing Operations, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Digital and Project Management. Applications shut at the end of February with some specific schemes expected to shut soon so don’t miss out.

Limitless Youth is a newly formed group providing a voice to young people with additional needs or disabilities. The group is aimed at young people aged 11-18 and we are currently exploring Limitless Youth+ for young people 18-25. The group currently meets monthly online with plans for occasional in-person meetings throughout the year.

Short breaks give children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), a chance to enjoy new activities, have fun and make new friends. They also give parents and carers a break from their caring responsibilities.

A short break can take place:

• after school

• at the weekend

• during school holidays

• overnight

A short break can also be an activity for a few hours, for example, at a leisure centre. Some short break activities are free whilst others charge.

Short breaks

Short breaks provide:

• childcare (regular and ongoing)

• holidays (in and out of the United Kingdom)

• support for siblings

• emotional support

• extra tuition

• support for parental ill health

There are 3 types of short breaks:

• short breaks for everyone (universal short breaks)

• targeted short breaks

• specialist and overnight short breaks

Refresh groups provide a safe, welcoming, and peer-led space for young people who are experiencing bereavement or who have been affected by cancer. Our sessions are designed to help young people feel supported, understood, and connected with others who may be going through similar experiences.

During the taster session, attendees will have the opportunity to:

· Learn more about Refresh Therapeutic Support

· Take part in fun, games and activities

· Meet like-minded young people

· Hot and cold snacks and drinks

· Spend time in a relaxed and supportive environment

The Refresh groups are peer-led and supported by experienced youth workers, ensuring young people can access meaningful support while building friendships and confidence.

This taster session is a great chance to see what the group is about, ask questions, and decide if the Refresh group feels right for you.

Sessions will then run weekly in term time from 23rd April.
