“I’m in another conflict, another year. Every war is different, every war the same” (Cooper 52). repeats another twice and same with war. It shows that he is maybe getting worn out about the same old things over and over

“His blood drips in a Jackson Pollock pattern next to a bloody sandal lying on the floor”(70). This is an allusion that creates imagery within the head of the reader. It shows the way that the blood splattered, adding to the gory themes and allowing the reader to get an understanding of how Cooper doesn’t just see the horrifying sight of blood he has become numb to, but also everything around it.

“More Iraqis are trained, more police desert. Fewer Americans die, more Iraqi cops get killed. One step forward, a bomb blast back. So many words written, so many pundits positioned. The closer you look, the harder it is to focus” (51). This is an example of parallelism. He gives many examples of the war being perceived in different ways. The structure of the sentences lets us know that they are parallelism.

“The closer you look, the harder it is to focus,” (Cooper 51). This quote provides an example of parallelism which helps grab the reader's attention and keep them intrigued in the story. During this part of the story they are explaining what they see in Iraq and one thing is that if you look to hard at something then you may find more and more parts that will lead you in another direction that you do not want to go.
