This camera shot really captures what motivates Edwin. You can see how much he cares for his grandaughter and his family the way he is smiling and making her laugh. It is probably not something Edwin wants to do but because he cares about his family he enjoys it and makes it better for those around him.

Throughout the beggining of the movie, Edwin kind of "picked" on his son Richard. They seemed so different it was hard to tell if they really liked eachother or not. This camera shot captured later in the movie really shows the growth of Edwin. The angle switched from up close during their talk to more of a higher shot to capture the hand shake. It signifies the growth from both of them as they are going through a hard time and hearing motivation from Edwin was almost shocking and added a great piece to his character.

After leaving the retirement home, Edwin realizes how much his family means to him. This camera angle captures the whole family talking together. It is one of his last moments before he dies but he is really happy tobe with his family as he cares for them all.

His external appearence is kind of a hippy look. Hippies are known for saying their mind and being free spirits. Hippies are also often linked with drug usage like how Edwin was addicted to heroin. But the hippie look really shows his true personality. He often talks too much or says things he shouldn't, but that is part of his free spirit mindset. He doesn't have much time left and lived an enjoyable life so he is often acting childish/funny.
