White capitalists created the system of slavery, and it was the foundation of wealth for centuries. Once slavery was abolished in the United States, it was replaced with a system of black inferiority which manifested itself in such ways like limiting voting, restrictions on access to capital, and restrictions on property ownership. As our nation has moved to try to eliminate those obstructions to success for the black community, it has been replaced by another capitalist demon - that of externalized costs. Minority neighborhoods and their residents are often victims of a lack of public investment in infrastructure which can lead to poor health and social outcomes. The Flint Michigan water system tragedy is a typical example of how our government can take advantage of poor neighborhoods by allowing its citizens to be poisoned by the lead contamination in water pipes.
