In questi anni, i bambini dei paesi vicini cominciarono a frequentare il giardino del gigante: si trovavano lì dopo la scuola e giocavano fino al tramonto. Quando il gigante tornò dal suo viaggio, trovò il suo giardino invaso dai bambini. Il gigante non sopportava la confusione: scacciò tutti i bambini e costruì un muro di e mattoni intorno al giardino. Il gigante trascorse l’inverno da solo, accanto al camino; i bambini, invece, dovettero trovare altri luoghi in cui giocare. Quando tornò la primavera il ghiaccio cominciò a sciogliersi, ma nel giardino del gigante non spuntò nessun fiore: il giardino, senza bambini, si era rifiutato di svegliarsi e aveva continuato a dormire. Il gigante fece finta di niente e rimase rintanato nella sua casa. Arrivò l’estate, ma il giardino rimase coperto di ghiaccio. Il gigante si prese un brutto raffreddore e fu costretto a letto. Un bel giorno, il gigante fu svegliato dal canto di un uccellino: gli parve il suono più bello che avesse mai udito. Il gigante scese dal letto con fatica e si affacciò alla finestra. Nel giardino c’erano tre bambini che si rincorrevano. Sotto i loro piedi, il ghiaccio si stava sciogliendo e i primi fiori primaverili stavano sbocciando. Il gigante uscì di casa. I bambini, appena lo videro, si nascosero dietro gli alberi per la paura. Ma il gigante li rassicurò: “Non abbiate paura, non voglio farvi del male. Vorrei restituirvi il mio giardino: così avrete un posto in cui giocare tutti insieme. Le parole del gigante sciolsero il manto di ghiaccio che aveva avvolto il giardino. I bambini corsero in paese a chiamare i loro amichetti e sparsero la voce che il gigante era diventato buono. Nel frattempo, il vecchio gigante buttò giù il muro che aveva costruito per nascondere il giardino: mentre lavorava, si sentiva pieno di energie e felice e così guarì dal suo raffreddore. Da quel giorno, il gigante egoista divenne un gigante gentile, che trascorreva le sue giornate in giardino a giocare con i bambini. The Giant was far away, he visited his friend, the Ogre.
The Giant returns home after seven years. When he arrives, he sees some children in his garden. 
They are playing happily and he is very angry.
The Giant builds a high wall around the garden. 
The poor children are very sad, they have no place to play.
When spring comes, there are flowers and birds everywhere but in the Giant's garden it's still winter.
The snow covers the grass with her big white coat and the frost paints the trees silver.
The selfish Giant sits at the window and looks at his cold, white garden. He is sad.
Spring never comes to the Giant's garden, summer never comes to the Giant's garden.
So it's always winter there. 
The Giant wakes up one morning and hears some lovely music, a little bird was singing a nice song.
The North wind stops blowing, it's a sunny day!!
The Giant goes to the window and looks outside and he sees something wonderful: there are children in the garden!!
SPRING IS BACK!!
 “ Now i know why spring doesn't come here” says the Giant.
 “I must break the wall. My garden must be the children's playground forever. I was selfish and I'm very sorry. I want to become a generous person.”

C'était un grand et ravissant jardin avec une douce herbe verte. 
« Comme nous sommes heureux ici ! » 
Un jour, le Géant revint. Il était allé visiter son ami, l'Ogre de Cornouailles, et était resté sept ans avec lui. 
Quand il arriva, il vit les enfants jouer dans le jardin.
« Que faites-vous ici ? » s'écria-t-il d'une voix très rude, et les enfants s'enfuirent.
« Mon jardin à moi est mon jardin à moi », dit le Géant ; « tout le monde peut comprendre cela, et je ne laisserai personne d'autre que moi y jouer » Et il construisit tout autour un mur très haut et mit un écriteau :
DEFENSE D'ENTRER SOUS PEINE D'AMENDE
C'était un Géant très égoïste. Les pauvres enfants n'avaient plus d'endroit pour jouer. Ils essayèrent de jouer sur la route, mais la route était très poussiéreuse et pleine de gros cailloux, et ils n'aimaient pas cela. Après avoir appris leurs leçons, ils erraient autour du mur en parlant du beau jardin qui était à l'intérieur.
« Comme nous y étions heureux ! » disaient-ils entre eux.
Le géant égoïste a été laissé seul dans son jardin. L'hiver est arrivé et la neige et le froid n'ont jamais disparu. Le géant était triste parce qu'il était resté seul.
Un jour, le géant entendit le chant d'un oiseau venant de son jardin. Il a couru dehors et a vu que le printemps était arrivé à l'extérieur de son jardin. Le géant a ouvert la porte et a invité les enfants à jouer. En peu de temps la neige et le froid ont disparu. "J'étais égoïste et je suis resté seul !!" dit le géant. Il a abattu le mur et a laissé les enfants libres de jouer dans son jardin.
