This is a free online interactive assessment which teachers only need one device versus each student having one.

This tool is great for a ongoing formative assessment tool quickly. By leaving the plicker bar codes in the student’s community boxes, they can have quick access to them for checks. If the students are not getting a topic quickly asking a formative question and getting the answer through plickers can provide a quick way to decide where to move on to academically.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb3vMi_O-lkdRVEG2cETJPw

This strategy promotes collaborative learning with students working together after reflecting independently then presenting their understanding to the group. The assessment comes when the students work together and share with the group. Teachers use this strategy because it is engaging and promotes participation.
http://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/think-pair-share

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9AWNl-A-34

Dry erase boards are used for students to present their thinking quickly by flashing their answer up for you to see. This is easily done in math whole group or small group. Giving the students a problem to sort out on their own and asking them to hold it up in front of their face gives the teacher a look into the abilities of each student.

Four Corners can be used as a fun engaging way to assess understanding by getting students on their feet. By asking a question and giving the answers by which corner of the room you are standing in the teacher can assess where to go next in the lesson. If the students are polarized by their answers student can get with a buddy from the opposite side and discuss together their understanding. Which could prompt better understanding and clear up confusion.

https://globaldigitalcitizen.org/12-awesome-formative-assessment-examples
