Why I'm in college

Hey guys! My name is Brianna and I'd like to share a bit about why I'm in college and why I chose to start my journey here at CLC.
I'll start off by sharing that I will be pursuing a degree in psychology. I'm very passionate about mental health and addiction and helping those who may face these struggles find true happiness along with their own strengths, inner beauty, and purpose. Going to college for me is so much more then a degree or an accomplishment to add to my list. It is the beginning of my journey to help as many people as I can grow through and from their struggles. I chose CLC because I heard from many others that they have a wonderful support staff and teachers who truly care, they are much cheaper, and it's close to home for me!

The learning platform and library databases I used were Points of view, academic search premier, and JSTOR. The one that I found the most helpful was the academic search premier. I found it easy to navigate and it had easy access to helpful tools such as: easy save, send, and print buttons all directly to the right of each article and a button to get a glimpse at the article abstract prior to actually opening the article saved time in my search for what I was looking for. The layout of the points of view and academic search premier were quite similar in how you search, change source types, and navigate overall webpage. I found JSTOR to have a slightly different layout and felt less easy to navigate. One thing I did enjoy about the JSTOR was the “text analyzer” which is a tool that allows you to use your own document to search for articles and books.

When it comes to making a successful transition to college I think time management is going to be a crucial skill to have and practice. Making sure we are managing our time well will save us from procrastination or being overwhelmed with assignments last minute because we simply did not work class or study time into our schedule. If we are managing our time well it gives us the time we need to complete our assignments with our full potential.
I also believe having a good support system is very important as you transition to college. Starting college brings a lot of change and a lot of work! Making sure you have emotional support and resources to help guide you in any way you need is important.

One thing that is positive about my time management skills is that I am good at making sure my responsibilities are done first. I have 3 days a week that my kids are in daycare and at school and this time is used for my own schooling, appointments, and any other errands I need to get done. One thing I need to work on is making sure I am taking time to be with friends and family. I can find this time by having coffee or breakfast with a friend and inviting my parents over for dinner. One of the tools I use and find the most helpful for me would be checklists. When making a checklist of what needs to be done, I take into consideration what the due date is and how long it will take me to do the task. Something I will begin doing is writing everything on my calendar. Typically, I just write down my appointments on my calendar, but If I am going to balance things in a healthy way, without feeling overwhelmed, I need to start writing down breakfast and dinner dates, my prayer time, setting aside time for chores, etc. This will help me see where I have extra time and where I maybe need to give myself a little more time.
