I agree with the value of adding the spiritual dimension. I agree with Indigenizing the curriculum. All of these are necessary to create a more equitable society, where a large portion of people have been left behind. Where I struggle is integrating these concepts into a large system (both education and health care) that has historically not valued these concepts. Where do I start and how do I make sure I am adequately preparing students to succeed in a system where success is largely not defined by these standards?

I found inspiration in the fresh ideas in the article. I appreciated the spiritual "interconnectedness" and interdependence, thinking about what this could look like in our classrooms. I liked the articulation of 5 spiritual outcomes, possible verbs to use for each and suggestion on how to scaffold this domain. The challenge to do this is ongoing, it is the same challenge I always experience: where to start, how to do this each day and how to impact and sustain change in educational and health systems. Looking forward to our collective learning and rich dialogue on Friday.

This is often what I feel is missing when a learner (student or teacher) fails to connect the dots when new information is not, at minimum, applied. When I read this article I thought to myself, how do I ensure I am including the spiritual domain in my lessons and in my learning? I truly to believe that real world stories or case studies give us the opportunity to use reflection as a tool to ensure we can include spirituality in our lessons and learning. Perhaps our reflection strategy of What? So What? Now What? needs to be reconsidered to include the verbs in the spiritual Domain... How can you/we re-imagine those guidelines?

My favourite parts of the article were the images in Figures 1/2 and the reflective questions in the conclusion because they concisely convey how we can engage in and assess the quality of holistic, inclusive learning and teaching processes. (I can also see being able to adapt these images and questions to help patients plan/reflect on/offer input about their healthcare experiences, healing process, and how their holistic needs are being/can be met in support of enhancing their well-being.)

I enjoyed reading this article today and found so many valuable pieces of information. I have often struggled with the blooms taxonomy and the idea of how many individuals actually reach self actualization. I feel like this can be a daunting and almost a dream for most students as life just is so challenging to reach that point. Alternatively, I found the medicine wheel approach to learning more in tune with how the student is at this point in their educational journey, but also can be applied and understood as a lifelong learner say who has been in the occupation for years. I think there is benefit in having a tool where we can appreciate the knowledge that the student brings to the table, at the beginning of their educational journey and build on that. This tool, in my opinion would assist the student feel comfortable knowing they fit in in this balanced educational model at all stages of their education and career.

Relationships and Connection

I felt very connected to the attention paid to relationships and connection as this is something I value in my work as a nurse educator. In particular, I think working with our community partners and clinical placements throughout the program is important to support Indigenous ways of knowing and build connections. Building relationships as faculty also fosters a sense of belonging for our nursing students as they find their place in the profession, and nurtures a culture of good relationships.
