I chose to represent my understanding of plants in society with the marijuana plant for its versatility. Marijuana has been cultivated for centuries as a dietary staple, because hemp is an excellent source of protein and is still today used in some protein powders. The marijuana plant has also lend its hand to various economic benefits to society, especially with the industrial uses of hemp in producing fuel, oils, paper, plastic, and rope. This plant doesn't just provide food and capital, because for thousands of years and as modern medical research will show marijuana has been used to treat an extensive list of ailments.

I believe tropical rainforests are in most danger of ecological change, carrying catastrophic impacts for the rest of the world. Tropical rainforests are host to the most diverse plant and animal life of any other biome; and despite covering only a tiny fraction of the world it generates almost half the oxygen on Earth. This biome is of vital importance, and it is being endangered on two fronts: climate change and deforestation. Climate change has shifted weather patterns in new precedence for tropical rainforests, which is producing rough droughts and the droughts are causing forest fires. Deforestation has to be the most evident danger for tropical rainforests which is the human impact; and a prime example of this danger is seen in the awful destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

A consequence of the first agricultural revolution was the slow but steady spread of agriculture throughout the world. The first spread of this agriculture was an intercontinental expansion in early civilization, largely due to migration. The other phase of this agricultural expansion deals with a transcontinental agriculture spread in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This agricultural expansion has allowed us to have the diversity in food choices we see today in the modern age.

The plow is a quintessential representation of innovation in the Second Agricultural Revolution. The plow was designed to clear land for farming, while simultaneously recycling plant material back into the soil. This invention cut labor needed to clear the farm land, while also dramatically increasing production. I chose the plow because it is the most popular example of the Second Agricultural Revolution innovation, and we can still see it be used today.

This could very well be a resemblance of our future ecosystem if human impact is not effectively and efficiently reduced; barren and lifeless. Climate change would continue to negatively impact crop production, soil conversion will continue to lead to desertification and deforestation, and an increasing human population will continue to encroach upon the environment, causing pollution and habitat destruction. If efficacious solutions to these issues are not reached the issues will only expand until our environment looks post-apocalyptic, as seen below.
