While Computer Generated Images (CGI) was introduced in film back in the 60's, the first time it appeared in anime was in 1983. Since it was the first anime to use this computer software, the final renditions of the scenes in the film were not very smooth. However, as the first anime to use CGI, it was a monumental step that inspired other anime creators, as artists implemented CGI in their works and learned how to better work with the program and create more polished scenes.

Golgo 13: The Professional

Golgo 13 is about a cold-blooded trained assassin based on the manga series written and illustrated by Takao Saito. The Anime was released in 1983, and was the first anime to use CGI. Golgo 13 is the code name for the assassin, who is a handsome lady's man. The anime is said to be quite dramatic and comedic, following Golgo 13's adventures as a hired hit man with ridiculous villains he was paid to kill.

The Cold War (1947-1991)

The Cold War was a rivalry of geopolitical tension for over 4 decades. The main conflict was between Russia and the US, and the US was fighting communism. Japan was a key ally to the US, and much of the world was involved on both sides. The 80s was an important decade in the war being that it was the last decade of the war. Technologies improved, tensions rose due to increased military and economic pressures. It ended with the collapse of the soviet union in 1991. This war was very catastropic and monumental, with how long it lasted and how many lives were lost. In relation to this class, the Cold War inspired at least 5-10 anime series.

Barefoot Gen

Barefoot Gen is an anime movie that was released in 1983 based on the manga series by Keiji Nakazawa. Nakazawa himself was a survivor of the bombings of Hiroshima. The story follows a little boy, Gen, who survived bombings, and is forced to look after his poverty-stricken family while his dad is working around the clock. While the bombings of Hiroshima happened in the 1940's and helped end WWII, it was one of the kick-starting events of the Cold War, which inspired someone enough to write a novel series on it. This novel series then inspired someone later on to put it into a film adaptation.

Aircraft Development/Stealth Planes

In 1983, the US secretly created the F-117 Nighthawk, the first operational stealth plane in the world. Other advancements of aircrafts in the 80's include the KC-10A, which was an aircraft designed to carry more fuel and more cargo. These developments changed the way military aircraft could operate and could have had significant impacts on wars waged. Improvements in technology have always been one of the centers of topics of history, as that is how we advance as societies.

This is an anime that follows the story of Takashi, who merges himself with virtual reality to become a pilot of a plane that can merge with other mechanical pieces that become a robot (the plane becomes the head). It aired in 1984 and only continued until 1985. While it's not canon, I think this anime could have been influenced/inspired by all the advancements in aircrafts in the 80's.
