Burnout can also be understood as a phenomenon associated with work, which can includes feelings of exhaustion and cynicism. It also characterized by a reduction in efficacy when performing a task. 

This phenomenon has already resulted in unemployment. Since the start of 2021 there has been a rise in people voluntary resining from their work across different fields. Sadly this is yet another consequence of the pandemic, also known as the great resignation. 

Burnout is known to cause mental and emotional symptoms and being a driving factor for depression. Beyond that, it is also known to cause physical effects such as an increase in the levels of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which produce changes in appetite and sleep patterns. Headaches and stomachaches are also symptoms related to stress.  

Looking out for symptoms of burnout can be useful in order to prevent serious consequences.
