This decision was based on feedback from teachers. Some teachers suggested that they do not feel comfortable taking a cell phone from a student. The two options were to provide teachers in order to clearly outline two responses that are appropriate and meet the needs of teachers. Teachers reported that for some students asking to put away would not be enough and for others taking it would lead to a power struggle. I think the larger issue I'm raising here is about getting student buy-in.

Great question- YES. At Brooks, it is a school wide program. 7th and 8th grade teams created goals that they felt were developmentally appropriate for their students and tracked data around that. A 6-8 week window is a long time for these kids - but feel we can work our way up to these longer windows as the year progresses.  Especially in the initial roll-out of this program (school-wide). Will give this positive momentum at the start of the year.
