Why you chose it: I chose this book because it showed how geography is important, and they will use a map to find where they live.
How are you going to use it: I plan on using this book with an activity where I will have students use a map to find themselves on it.

What it is: A ticket around the world, is about traveling around the globe to 13 different places! You can transport yourself to any of the 13 places. Each place you go, you learn about all the different types of foods, landmarks, etc. they have and learn interesting facts you wouldn’t know! When it talks about the different countries, it has a map as the background of the page, and shows the foods, language, landmarks, and more, each country has.
Why you chose it: I chose this book because it shows students maps for all around the world.
How you are going to use it: After reading this book to my students, I would allow them to choose a country they think is interesting and have them act like they are there and map it.

What it is: The Cat in the Hat gets in the car with his friends and finds a map on his lap! He says they will travel the world, see the whole United States and will still be back by the end of the day! Throughout this book we learn about earth, and how its round like a ball, and if we lay it out flat it looks like a map. We learn about a scale, that makes maps easy to use, and how we can make maps either close to us or far away. To remember N, E, S, W, it teaches us the saying “never eat soggy wheat”. As for all other maps, the one we see in this book has symbols based off the legend with pictures we see. When using maps, it is important to notice that there is more than one way to point A to point B, no matter if it is quicker, it can get you around traffic! When traveling the world, no matter where, with a map in your lao, you will always know where to go!
Why you chose it: I chose this book because it is a great way to keep kids interacted when learning about Maps, and everything mapping involves.
How are you going to use it: I plan on using this book to teach the students about cardinal directions, and to teach them how to read a key/legend. After we read this book as a class, I will have the students do a worksheet with partners where they have to figure out where things are based on pictures from the key/legend.

What it is: What is a treasure map? In this book, there are a group of friends who climb into a treehouse and find a treasure map. The treasure map they found is more than fifty years old, and it starts on their corner! Since they believe that there is buried treasure where X is on the map, they get a shovel and go on a hunt. On the map there are clues they follow to get to the X. After they follow the clues, they stumble upon a rock with an X on it, and they start to shovel and dig. Once they get to the metal box, they pull it out and find all sorts of old cool things. After they look in the box, they decide to add some of their own stuff, and then to put it back, that way someone else can find it later. When they get it buried back in the hole, the kids say, “X marks the spot!” and head back to the treehouse.
Why you chose it: I chose this book because it shows kids there are different types of maps, and different ways to read maps.
How you are going to use it: I plan on using this book to show kids there are many different types of maps. Why you chose it: I chose this book because it shows a map of all the places the animals passed. Once it reached it destination, it would create a map of all the places the animal passed, and after each animal made it to the final destination, it created a big map that showed every single place the animals passed.
How you are going to use it: I plan on using this book when teaching my students about mapping because it is a way to show students maps show everything. I would have students create a map of everything they passed in a school day and then have them explain it if they could.
