Since I've been interested and engaged in politics for years and having had personal first-hand experience in the process of the American election by talking to people, doing primary research, watching debates and following presidential campaigns,
researching about this particular topic wasn't that difficult.
Finding sources and information in an academic context and gathering those which were relevant to an academic essay was a bit challenging since most academic
writings usually don't deal with such an issue. Trying to be non-partisan and keeping my personal view and experience out of
this essay turned out to be a little bit hard but in the end I managed to do so. I started to brainstorm and created a map with the most important points I wanted
to cover which led me to finally three key factors I did my research on. I used information from a variety of sources including some non-academic ones because as previously mentioned this issue is not a widely discussed in academics.
What was important for me was to make the reader realize and understand which factors mattered the most and how important it is to stay impartial on such a controversial issue.
What I learnt in terms of the connection to the course's concept, was how to use academic style and referencing in the proper manner to analyze a rather atypical research topic which I've already had plenty of knowledge of. But the task to keep a certain structure and to explain the question without going into too much details due to the world limit of 3000 words, was both refreshing and challenging to a certain extent.
The status of my knowledge about the main question didn't change a lot, while on the other hand I am not aware of how to implement references and citations in
academic writing. Any new academic knowledge that has been acquired will always help me in any future situation whether the next step is to study or to go
back to work.
