I just received an email from Catalina Offshore Products. I had signed up to be on their email list. I love seafood so they do not have to do much to keep me in their community! 
What I like about online communities is the ability to customize the information flow according to my needs - short term/long term. I also like searchable.
As an online facilitator, (reflecting on face-to-face SI experiences) it would be great to have a shared experience community (like a virtual SI) where participants could select areas of interest they want to stay current on.
