For formal writing, it does need to be engaging yet lean more towards the material it delivers, how well the topic is, how well structured the paragraphs are, and how useful it is. Writing, especially formal like articles often use new words as well that can enrich our vocabulary, through this way, the text will able to pique an interest for my own opinion. For the writing to be able to be engaging for us to read, the formal language is no boundaries. We can make the paragraphs interesting by how well we shaped the text. Put a question or interesting thumbnails, make them more interested in the intro, explain in the end.
