Our table group discussed that critical thinking is grounded in curiosity. It is about analyzing a situation or a problem with the goal of being able to respond or build or create something. Solution based. We also talked about how critical thinking starts at a young age. It is a process NOT a product and can only be done in an emotionally and academically safe space (NME brain science ... regulate from the bottom of the brain up).

Critical Thinking is a process of reading against the grain and analyzing a text/idea/situation for authorship, intent, impact, reception. It is looking at your sources, diversifying your perspective and analyzing the language that surrounds the text. It is analyzing for ethos, pathos, logos, and mythos.

Being critical of the language used--what are the empirical and revisionary definitions that impact meaning and usage and affect the potentials and consequences for communities today.

Being intentional with the language we choose to use. We avoid shallow opinions but instead put in the effort to learn more. We read books and reference our sources; we talk with stakeholders; we seek out art that offers another perspective; and we are willing to change our minds with new compelling information as we seek to revise our own beliefs and language. After we do the work, we intentionally practice the language we want to use

We come to play. Language and contexts offer so many nuances and avenues for meaning. We learn the rules so we can decide if we want to play by them. We punctuate what we say as we chase meaning. And, we don't forget to delight in the possibilities that a porous language affords.
