The differences between the hearing and deaf culture when exiting classrooms and minimizing interruptions are not very drastic. In hearing culture, people exit the classrooms by making eye contact with the teacher or putting up a hand signal. In deaf culture you should let the teacher know by raising your hand at an appropriate time. Only if urgent, may you leave the class without talking to the teacher.

For hearing people usually are more do first ask later but for deaf culture it's always ask first do when you get the time. So an example is how people in hearing culture just go and do the ting and in deaf culture you gotta tell the teacher. Even though it's required to tell the teacher in both cultures, it's more important in deaf culture. -Derek Huynh

The deaf culture in general relies on vision to understand and inform others what is happening. In both worlds, students will have to minimize their interruptions to the class and let the teacher know the reason for being late or needing to leave early without disrupting his/her lesson. This can be done by a brief apologizing or interrupting at the right time!

My biggest takeaway from today’s lesson was how to do things we frequently do in class without a second thought visually instead of audibly. It was interesting to see the slight differences in mannerisms in both cultures. The major differences between the hearing and the Deaf cultures seem to be the focus on bluntness and being upfront/to the point in the Deaf community, as opposed to hearing people’s tendency to sugarcoat things.
