The Simla Deputation was a significant event in Indian history that took place in 1906. It was a formal meeting between a group of Muslim leaders and the British Viceroy of India, Lord Minto, in Simla (now Shimla). The deputation was led by prominent Muslim leaders like Aga Khan, Nawab Salimullah of Dhaka, and others.

The main purpose of the Simla Deputation was to present the concerns of Muslims regarding their political and social rights in India, especially in the context of the growing influence of the Indian National Congress, which was largely dominated by Hindus. The Muslim leaders sought separate political representation for Muslims in legislative bodies, fearing that they would be politically marginalized if they were to be grouped with Hindus.

As a result of the Simla Deputation, the British government agreed to the idea of separate electorates for Muslims, which was later formalized in the Morley-Minto reforms

The All-India Muslim League was formed in 1906 as a response to the growing concerns among Muslims regarding their political representation and rights in India. At that time, Muslims felt increasingly underrepresented in the political landscape, particularly as Hindu nationalist movements gained prominence. The League aimed to ensure that Muslim interests were advocated for in the political arena, addressing fears of marginalization. The introduction of the Indian Council Act of 1909, which provided for separate electorates for Muslims, further highlighted the need for an organized political platform to represent the community. Additionally, the Muslim League sought to unite Muslims across India, providing a cohesive voice for their concerns and aspirations. Beyond political representation, the League also focused on promoting Muslim culture, education, and social welfare. Its formation marked a significant development in Indian politics, ultimately playing a crucial role in the demand for a separate nation, which led to the establishment of Pakistan in 1947.
