UDL is the new educational methodology. It includes good pedagogical roots and encourages technological tools usage. I strongly believe that this is one of the most important topics of this course because through it we can change how education is lived inside the Costa Rican classrooms. The teacher is the one that makes a good and comfortable environment, and we should never forget it.

Lastly, I want to share my insights about Daniela’s infographic. I want to congratulate her because it is really nice and pretty, but that is not the most important part. I share my vision of UDL with her as she sees UDL as a way of avoiding exclusion inside the classroom and creating 100% accessible materials. I would say that we both agree that is not the student who should adapt to our materials but the other way around, each material should be of easy access and completion for everyone.

Then when students have to show their understanding of the content, in a given activity they can choose to do a digital or a physical poster summarizing the main points, and they can either just add text, just drawings, or both. 

To engage students in the classwork, I would have them work in small groups where they would have to share a personal experience related to the topic of the lesson with their groups. For instance, if the topic is about hobbies, they would have to use the vocabulary and grammar structures studied to tell others about their favorite hobbies. 

Finally, I would like to say that I share Astrid's ideas regarding engagement activities because it is our responsibility as teachers to provide a variety of activities, elements, and ways for students to be interested in the subject and not let the class be monotonous.

Second, to implement the means of expression and make sure students understood the topic, I will give them an activity with a flexible approach, they can create a poster, a video, a song or even a summary if that is what they feel like doing to ensure their understanding of what was explained.

And third, to keep them engaged, I’ll create original materials that include images, interactive slides or videos for students to select and use their favorite method.

Finally, I agree with Daniela’s infographic and her opinions of always looking for inclusion and accessibility for all students.

Curricular accommodation: 1 student with low vision.

Activity:

1.      Students look for a picture of an animal they like.

2.      Students watch the image carefully and they write a description of the animal. For this, students must include the following information: color of the skin, color of the eyes, size, type of tail, and form of the head. (students with low vision will receive this information in the font Verdana size eighteen, with the letters in bold).

3.      For students, with low vision they will receive a visual aid which consist in giving them a tablet so that they can zoom in the image to appreciate the details requested by the teacher.

4.      In peers, students rehearse the description they wrote and ask for feedback about punctuation and pronunciation of words to the teacher and to their peers.

5. Students prepare a visual material to present their description, this can be an infographic, a drawing, a poster, or a short story to describe the animal they chose.

5.      Students present their visual material in the whiteboard with the help of a projector, and they describe in front of the class while the teacher takes notes to provide feedback.

The idea of this activity is to create a setting in which all students can participate by providing extra help to students with special education needs. Also, the idea is that students can express their learning in multiple ways, and that they get engaged in the topic since it is a topic with a wide variety of possibilities. I agree with the infographic of Kevin, I think he got the idea very well. In this line, I prepare my activity.

Firstly, in my lesson, I would incorporate multiple means of representation by selecting two different videos/audios or pictures based on a same topic where shows different perspectives of it, then I could explain briefly those videos/audios only with an interactive ppt slide.

Secondly, to implement the means of expression, I would give students different options where they could choose between doing posters, drawings, text presentations, or an oral speech.

Thirdly, to engage them, I could do both online games and dynamic games within the class, so all the students can participate.

Finally, I agree with Kevin’s point of view since we, as professors, must be flexible and adapt the materials to the different styles of students. I also consider we should always have a plan B due to the different ways of learning of each student.

Later, I would implement an speaking activity in which students will have to demonstrate what they have learned. Nevertheless, they can choose if they want to do a role play, formal presentation, an informal conversation, or a presentation with materials like posters.

At the end of the lesson, and in order to assess students performance, I would give them 2 options. One of the is to complete a self-assessment checklist in which they evaluate their own performance. The other option is to complete a co-assessment checklist with a classmate to foster interactions between peers.

Finally, I would like to share my insights about Cristian's infographic. Firstly, he and I agree on the multiple means of action and expression. Students can express what they have learned differently, such as round tables, role plays, and drawings. Another interesting aspect he mentioned was the implementation of games to engage students. It works because most students like to play games in class as it makes them think they can enjoy the subject matter they learn. A class is not just about explaining a topic; we can make it more enjoyable.

As an example, i would give credit to Ramsés Infographic because it's simple but extremely well-explained and i loved the part  "paper and pens are not involved" , i consider it the best way to explain UDL principles

Now, in my plannings, I will always include visual and audial aids to complement reading or listening activities to satisfy the need of the majority of my students. Besides this, I will add different extra sources to expand the understanding of the topic as different websites with relevant information or videos related to the topic. My activities will seek to enhance participation and peer interaction since most of them are going to include group-working to develop soft skills and to motivate students to cooperate and help each others. In addition, original-authentic materials and different techniques like gamification or the usage of VR will be a constant in my class to keep my students' attention to the tasks and the goals behind them.

Lastly, I will like to refer to Raquel's infograph. It is admirable to see how she understood the topic so easily and resumed it in a clear way that everyone who doesn't know well about UDL could quickly make a good idea of what it is about. I think that we both are going to do our best fulfilling the UDL principles in our classes.
