         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>To identify a computer and its main parts.</strong><br>The children begin by drawing what they think a computer looks like and label the main parts (screen, keyboard, mouse etc: 5 minute activity)<br>After 5 minutes ask for a volunteer to show their 'computer'. Show a picture of PC and ask where the labels should go. <br><strong>Spot the Difference:<br></strong>Show the children a tablet, mobile phone and laptop. How are these similar and different to a PC?<strong><br><br>Click and Drag Task:<br></strong>Laptop/ PC set up with images to click and drag to certain places (a drinks can goes into the rubbish bin). The children learn to click on the image with the mouse or trackpad and drag them to where they want the image to be on the screen.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>To use a mouse to open a program.<br></strong>Use the mouse or track pad to open up a drawing program such as 2Simple, Early Essentials or Sketchpad.<br><strong>Technology Explorers:<br></strong>Once the program is open, the children can use the mouse to explore the different drawing tools to produce a picture of their choice. They will need to click the mouse or track pad to make their choice and then drag the mouse/trackpad to create the marks on screen which will in turn create their picture. This will re-enforce their previous learning of click and drag skills.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>To use a keyboard to type.<br></strong>Begin by asking the children the different ways in which we communicate.<strong> <br></strong>How would we do this with a computer? We would write what we want to say using the keyboard.<br>Explain that when we use the keyboard to write, this is called typing. Show the children the letter keys, space bar, backspace key etc. and briefly explain what they are used for.<br><strong>Typing Task:<br></strong>Using previously taught mouse skills, the children will open up a pre-made word document with questions to answer. Using the keyboard, they will type their answers. Once complete, the children will save their work as their name by typing their name into the correct file name box.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>To use a keyboard to edit.<br></strong>Recap the last lesson by asking the children to name the 'writing parts' of a computer (the keyboard).<br>Ask the children if they can remember what each part of the keyboard is for.<br><strong>Editing Task:<br></strong>Introduce the idea of editing to the children and explain that if we make an error in our work, then we can use the backspace key to delete the error. Explain that sometimes we might only want to delete one letter as opposed to the whole word, so, in this case we can use the arrow keys to move the cursor along (backwards, forwards, up/down). <br>Get the children to open up a pre-made word document where they will need to edit the mistakes that have been made using both the backspace key and arrow keys.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>To use technology responsibly.<br></strong>Class discussion about online safety and why we have certain rules to follow when we go online.<br><strong>SMART<br></strong>Use the <strong>TWINKL PLANIT </strong>scheme to discuss <strong>SMART.<br></strong>Ask the children to help sort safe and unsafe scenarios and discuss what we should do in each case.<strong><br>Poster:<br></strong>Children work together to produce an online safety poster. They can use their drawing skills to do this on the laptop, PC or tablet.<br>Choose volunteers to show their poster to the rest of the class.<strong><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>
