The two rhetorical appeals used were logos and ethos. The use of logos can be found as one of the bullet points saying “Customers reported an increase in...HAPPINESS by 98%!” This shows the statistics of how effective the product is. The use of ethos can be found on the top of the page with the company’s official website called “OfficialRemoteControl.Com” and it can also be found near the bottom of the advertisement saying “Brought to you by the makers of the sold-out Crocodile Remote Control.” These are instances of ethos because it provides the credibility and reliability of the company and product which helps with the purpose of advertisement which is to sell the product.

Various strategic uses of persuasive techniques were used for the Alligator Remote Control advertisement. The first one includes the use of Avante Garde. The two instances of this technique include “Join the club and get ahead of time!” and “Connecting prehistoric times with the 21st Century.” These prove that the product puts the user ahead of the times and convinces the audience that they should purchase it. The second strategy used was Patriotism. This can be found with the phrase “Made in The Cave.” Because the target audience are cavemen, having this product made in The Cave will bring a sense of home for the customer. The third method of persuasion would be Plain Folks, where the imagery of the caveman on the advertisement relates to the target customer and a blurb on the side saying “This could be you!” Lastly, the use of Bribery plays a part where the item is said to be “was 12 rocks, NOW ONLY 12 pebbles” and that customers will be able to “Buy 1 Get 1.” This offers the consumer something ‘extra’ for a deducted price. Customers are more inclined to purchase the product since they are getting more out of the same price.

As regards to the visual appeals, the advertisements include imagery and pops of color. The main image the audience will notice would be the caveman holding the Alligator Remote Control. The remote control is pointed at a small television with “Buy 1 Get 1” displayed on the screen. This portion of the advertisement appeals to the consumer through a personal connection or pathos as they see someone like them in the advertisement. The pops of color were used throughout the advertisement to highlight the exclusiveness of the product such as “Made in The Cave,” “Now only 12 pebbles,” and “Limited Offer!” These methods connect to the purpose of selling the product by convincing the audience how exclusive the product is. These play a role in the rhetorical appeals by offering appeals of ethos and pathos.

The item I advertised was “doll masks” for the targeted audience of ninjas. The rhetorical appeals I used were logos, pathos and ethos. Specifically I applied pathos by creating urgency through the use of statements with deadlines such as “the first 50 ninjas to order get 15% off” which conveys to the ninjas that they might not be able to get the item at sale price if they don’t hurry so they’ll be encouraged to buy right away. Additionally I used pathos in the beginning of the ad by creating a sense of fear for the ninjas by making them think their identity may be discovered if they keep on wearing their old mask because of the fear of having their identity discovered they would want to buy a more durable mask.

I also used logos by applying percentages such as including how many ninjas have their identity revealed because they don’t wear a doll mask as well as including what material it was made of and how many ninjas have tested and loved it (100,000 ninjas).

The last rhetoric I used is ethos, by creating credibility through the company name which included a © for copyright as well as the name which is “unidentified identity” which makes the doll mask seem more legitimate as the purpose of the mask is to hide the ninja's identity. Also though the statement “ 30 days money back guarantee” which proves we believe in our product; since we would give refunds, therefore making ninjas more likely to buy as they see I have confidence in the product. Additionally, I used credibility by including the greatest ninja alive Hattori Hanzo’s testimonial of the masks effectiveness which makes the ninjas believe if they buy the mask they can be just as great and that clearly it must work if the greatest ninja alive uses the doll mask.

Some persuasive methods used in my appeal are words such as risk and identity revealed. I used the word risk by conveying to the audience fear of the possibility that their old mask will give away who they are. As well as risk, I used identify revealed because as a ninja that’s the number one important thing that must be done which is keeping their identity a secret which they want to do at all cost, therefore if the doll mask promises to do so and clearly their old mask can’t they will be persuaded to purchase the doll mask which can ensure the privacy of their identity.

Finally, one visual technique that I applied to my ad is the use of red as it’s a bold color and stands out and is usually connected to the feeling of urgency and also attracts the human eye or ninja eye in this case.

The product that I had to advertise was a pillow remote control which I came up with the idea of an adjustable pillow with a slot for their remote control with added benefits of a cup holder and food table. The center of the advertisement is the actual product image and it draws the attention of most people. The intended audience is senior citizens, which is shown in the first line of the advertisement, “interested in maintaining a good posture while remaining in bed all day?” which appeals to their long struggle of posture as they get older. The two rhetorical appeals I used were ethos and logos. A use of ethos is used when the advertisement mentions Dr. Jordan Estrada, a trending chiropractor on the popular social media app, tiktok. I used logos when mentioning statistics about the improvement of posture with the use of the product. Some of the persuasive techniques I used in this advertisement include, transfer, bandwagon, bribery, and avante garde. Bandwagon and avante garde is used when quotations are used in the advertisement such as, “ahead of our times” which shows that the product is advanced. The other quotation, “ I use mine all the time and I'm not even an elderly” by a teen, age 16 shows that many of different age groups might be using it and suggests to the seniors that they wouldn’t want to miss that opportunity. Transfer is used in the central image itself. It shows that the pillow has many features which conveys a comfortable feeling to the audience. The central image also shows a bit of bribery by showing the audience that in addition to the good posture and the remote control that is attached, the consumer can also have a place to put their cups and their food.

In my advertisement I sold The Hand Basket, a comfortable alternative to handcuffs. I attempted to appeal to hostages, who have generally uncomfortable, anxious, and upsetting experiences while being held hostage. I used pathos while describing the pain felt when being forced to wear handcuffs using words and phrases like uncomfortable, chafing, and wrist pain. By doing this I recognize the struggles of the audience. I use pathos again when describing the benefits of using The Hand Basket using words like relaxing, comfortable and soothing. By doing this I suggest that my product makes the experience of being held hostage a positive one, an attractive idea to a hostage who might feel anxious or terrified during a hostage situation. I use logos when I note that wearing metal handcuffs can cause wrist pain. By doing this I establish that the hostage experience can be difficult and physically painful and I assert that this is because of the handcuffs being used, this way I establish the handcuffs are the biggest issue in hostage situations. I use logos again when describing the materials of the product using phrases like smooth wooden exterior and velvety linen lining. By doing this I establish that the product is made of good quality materials and appeal to the audience, attempting to convince them that the basket is very comfortable to use and I again reinforce that the hostage experience can be made comfortable and enjoyable with the product. In my advertisement I aimed to show my product as appealing and desirable. The design of my advertising attempts to convey an Avante Garde style that comes with the odd and perhaps unnecessary product of a Hand Basket. The title is written messily and boldly. There are messily drawn stars at the top and bottom of the advertisement. Overall, the ad tries to convey a style that is wholly unique, an idea that would likely appeal to a luxurious buyer when accompanied by an expensive product. Overall, the advertisement attempts to convince the audience that the product will make their hostage experience more enjoyable either through added comfort or a unique sense of style.

My assignment was to advertise a food bracelet for a vampire, birthing the ‘Blood Bracelet’, a hollow bracelet filled with blood that a vampire can drink out of at their own convenience. To advertise the Blood Bracelet, I utilized the rhetorical appeals of ethos and logos. The former can be seen through my attempt to integrate a sense of credibility within the advertisement. Firstly, in the bottom right corner of the ad, I put the words ‘Dracula Approved!’. Dracula is an iconic figure in Gothic literature and beyond and is practically one of the first figures that come to mind when one envisions vampires. By having such a well-known character endorse my product, I am establishing a sense of trustworthiness within the hearts of the viewer. While the majority of my advertisement is in a set dual color scheme, I made sure to color the endorsement in yellow so it would pop out to the eye. I also made sure to include a list of all the positive aspects of the product such as ‘convenient’, ‘easy to use’, and ‘discreet’ in order to convince the viewers that the Blood Bracelet is genuinely a product worth buying. As for the logos, I included the statistic of ‘9 out of every 10 vampires use the Blood Bracelet’, in order to demonstrate to viewers that the satisfaction amongst the product runs high. The statement is a statistic, utilizing logic and hard facts to get the appeal across. Additionally, I tried to cater to the audience (vampires) using a color scheme. The two most visually prominent colors within the advertisement are black and red, two of the most popular colors associated with vampires --- the black of Gothic gloom, and the red of blood. I also made sure to include extra methods of appeal such as the ‘Buy 1, get 5 refills free’ offer (bribery), which would entice potential customers into yielding for the seeming steal. I also utilized the persuasive technique of ‘weasel words’ when I wrote: “Virtually eliminate the hassle”. The word ‘virtually’ signifies a positive impact strong enough to draw in buyers, yet does not make any solid promises.

My advertisement for Kit Underwear employs visual details, all three rhetorical appeals, and some persuasive techniques to sell the product to Santa and his many elves. To begin, I use a very obvious red and green color scheme to attract Santa and his cheerful Christmas gimmick, while using colors that don’t blend in to catch Santa’s attention.
From the top, I list a number of questions that subtly inquire about the quality of work and ease of life that Santa may lack in his workshop, evoking an emotional response that may cause Santa to feel unorganized and inconvenienced. To answer these questions, the advertisement presents the product and its many capabilities and advantages. Through the use of certain words such as “luxurious” and “seamlessly”, the advertisement evokes a feeling of dissatisfaction with Santa’s current state of life. Additionally, the infographic employs the use of logos and ethos to highlight the premium materials and the approval of the product by many figures of authority. Specifically, the visual explains that the Kit Underwear is made from 100% cotton and has been proven by scientists to increase productivity, comfort, and charisma by 300%. Also, a close-up of the underwear reveals that it uses a never-before-seen technology, a magic ingredient, that allows objects and tools to stick to the underwear without the need for velcro, holders, or adhesive; this persuasion is meant to reel Santa in to see what other marvels the Kit Underwear has to offer.
Next, the advertisement creates a juxtaposition between a user with and without Kit Underwear. Understandably, the user without the Kit Underwear is unattractive, unorganized,

and on fire, while the user wearing the Kit Underwear stands proudly with his surroundings clean and shiny. This comparison serves the clear purpose of exposing what benefits the product can bring, all the while using pathos to induce the thought and guilt into Santa’s mind that he may look like the unattractive person without the Kit Underwear.
Finally, the bottom of the page lists several choices that may appeal to Santa’s preferences when buying the product. To be more exact, the company offers the green and red color scheme that he would most likely need, a range of sizes that would fit him and his elves, and express shipping to his location. To finish off, the advertisement offers a bribe that provides Santa with a free DuraBag (durable bag for his presents) if he executes a bulk order, making him feel like he’s getting a great deal if he buys the product.

A plethora of rhetorical strategies and techniques were used in the creation of this advertisement of the Wigfan. The primary target audience was teachers which meant the purpose of the Wigfan had to be interconnected to a classroom. For this advertisement, I primarily used logos and ethos. In terms of logos, I included how a Wigfan functions better and is more environmentally friendly than a regular fan or air conditioner that is used in the classroom. I included facts such as how regular air conditioners contribute roughly 25% to global warming and how they emit harmful gases into the atmosphere. I then further stated how the Wigfan is different because it uses an environmentally friendly energy source, wigs. I incorporated statistics that state how the Wigfan functions five times better than its competitors. This use of logos appeals to teachers because it attracts them to buy the environmentally friendly Wigfan for the classroom compared to a more harmful air conditioner.

Moreover, I extensively used ethos within the poster by referring to influential experts and famous celebrities. For instance, I included how Neil deGrasse Tyson has endorsed the product and how he said it was amazing. I included how even Albert Einstein and Jeff Bezos have used the Wigfan which emphasizes how anyone can use it in their life. This would be an effective use of ethos because teachers would want to buy the Wigfan after knowing such big-name celebrities are endorsing it. Additionally, I included how ten out of ten environmentalists preferred the Wigfan compared to regular fans.

Finally, I did incorporate a little bit of pathos within my advertisement with a picture of a student crying, sweating, and saying that she is burning hot. I included a plea saying “Please help these burning, hot students. They don’t need to suffer.” To add on, I included another plea saying that if a teacher does not want their students to cry from the heat in a classroom, they should buy a Wigfan. This use of pathos would appeal to the teachers who have students that always complain that the classroom is too hot, persuading them to buy the Wigfan.

Furthermore, I utilized other rhetorical techniques on top of ethos, pathos, and logos. For example, I used Avante Garde when I emphasized that a teacher buying the Wigfan would be one of the first to have such an advanced piece of technology. Weasel words were used when I stated how the Wigfan could help with teaching, and I included how the fan is made of a rare, special type of hair that produces a cooling and healing effect. I used patriotism when I included how the product was both made and ranked #1 within the United States. Finally, I used bribery when referring to a deal where if you buy one Wigfan you can get another one free. The use of these other rhetorical techniques builds more persuasion and appeal by emphasizing the great qualities of the fan, including its other purposes, and offering different deals when one buys it. In addition to these appeals, I used visual statements such as a picture of the Wigfan and a classroom, a child crying from heat, and a picture of Albert Einstein to further convince the audience to buy a fan. I made my poster very colorful and inviting, hoping that the audience would be drawn to the color and will read the content of the poster. These visual and rhetorical appeals played a great part in fully encompassing the brilliant invention of the Wigfan and its multiple purposes.

Alem Bicic Jennifer Kim Period 10 AP Lang 30 September 2021
Advertisement Statement - Remote Rocket
My advertisement is attempting to market a “rocket remote control” to an audience of
senior citizens. Rockets are very powerful due to the force that they’re launched with, so I decided to advertise the Remote Rocket to be placed in front of one’s house as a home defense system. The Rocket could be used to scare away invaders or simply as a status symbol for the owner. As senior citizens are a vulnerable population, I chose to mainly use an emotional appeal to advertise the Remote Rocket, along with logic. Pathos, an appeal to emotion, was used in the headline of the advertisement - “Light the FIRE of Youth”. Not only are the elderly vulnerable, many are unhappy with aging; they may have regrets, or simply wish they could do more to defend themselves. To evoke emotions from this, the advertisement uses weasel words to persuade the elderly that this product will make them feel younger. Additionally, as a visual element, the word “Fire” is colored to resemble a burning fire, to pull the viewer's attention.
In the body of the advertisement is an image of the Remote Rocket, the products name, and an avant garde approach to advertising. The rocket itself has a flame design on it to appear threatening and “cool”, which may appeal to elderly folk who believe their lives are boring. The aforementioned avant garde approach is text on the right that says “Be the toughest old folk on the block!” which not only reiterates how the Rocket will make them stronger, but how it will place them above their elderly peers. The body of this advertisement once again appeals to the emotions of the audience.
The bottom of the advertisement, however, introduces a logical appeal. It provides statistics of property crime against the elderly; more specifically, burglaries, to persuade viewers

that they need a home defense system. This also appeals to emotions somewhat by instilling fears in any elderly viewers, as they may find the rates of property theft to be surprisingly high. There is a simple drawing of a burglar, so that people can know from a glance what the following information is about. The last few lines at the bottom of the ad all use an emotional appeal. They focus on the self-defense aspect of the Remote Rocket to try and persuade the audience using fear.

The item I had to advertise was “Hand-Feather” with my audience being witches. The rhetorical appeals I chose to advertise this product were ethos and logos since I could not think of a way to emotionally appeal to witches. The ethos represented in my advertisement was the name of the company that the item is sold by. The company’s name is “Gothel & Co.” which was a combination of Tiffany & Co. and the witch from Rapunzel. I made the name stand out the most in my poster and added a slogan as well to make it seem more credible. And, the fact that Gothel was a witch herself made the company more reputable. Another form of ethos present in my poster were the portrayals of the Wicked Witch’s broom and Glenda the Good Witch’s broom. By giving examples of famous witches who endorse the product, the credibility of it is increased.

The logistical appeal of the poster was expressed by listing out information about the product such as how it is helpful for witches and the way it was made. I did some research on feathers and their symbolism to come up with this list. In the list, I included that the Hand-Feather improves flight experience, agility, and repels bad omen since all three of these could aid a witch in their life. As for the way they were made, I added that the feather came straight from a falcon which is the fastest animal in the world which explains why the product would help in flight and agility. I also added that it was modified by Gothel & Co.’s “unrivaled magic” which is intertwined with ethos since it’s implying that it was made by a company with the strongest magic. Since many witches have long nails, I included that the product was made with durable material so that it would not get damaged easily. Finally, I added that it was customizable to fit your hand as well as how you want to wear it. So, it could be a bracelet or a glove increasing the convenience factor of the product. All of the mentioned aspects make the Hand-Feather a more viable purchase.

Some persuasive methods used in my advertisement were weasel words, bandwagon, transfer, and bribery. The weasel word ‘feel’ was used in the sentence “makes you feel as light as a feather” to suggest that the product actually makes you lighter when in reality, it’s only a feeling. Transfer was used by adding a colorful image of a cheery witch in the center of the poster. By looking at another witch who looks happy, the audience may correlate the product to bringing them happiness as well. Bandwagon was incorporated in the advertisement through drawings of brooms owned by famous witches with the writing “Used by ALL”. By showing examples of well-known witches along with this writing may make the audience feel as though they are missing out by not owning it. The final method of persuasion I used was bribery by providing them with a discount. The condition for the discount was that they purchase it before the next full moon to receive 50% off.

One visual technique I applied in my poster was making certain words a different color to make them stand out more. Those words involved the redeeming qualities of the product. Another way I used color was to differentiate between good and evil. I made the Wicked Witch’s broom green and the Good Witch’s broom pink as she mainly wears pink. This distinction was used to show that this product was made for all witches no matter which moral path they decide to embark on.

My product is a horn pool, to be sold to ninjas, which I decided is an underwater obstacle course with horns as the obstacles. I wrote that my product was a limited edition item and wrote that it would be gone in a week to produce a sense of urgency for consumers to buy the horn pool. In the top left of the print ad, I included a logo and a claim that this company had been making pools since 208 BCE. This is a use of ethos, it establishes credibility for the creator of the product by establishing extensive experience with this kind of product. The ad claims that 63% of failed ninja missions happen underwater, and promises that the product will help its users avoid falling victim to that statistic. This uses logos to establish trust in the validity and effectiveness of the product. Finally, the ad claims that this product is the first of its kind, establishing that its users will be ahead of everyone else if they use the product.

My product is a rocket costume for ninjas. They always have to wear the same attire even though it’s cool but with my rocket costume, they can look just as cool for a low low price of $19.99.

Ethos: Ninjas are cool but do you know what else is cool? Rockets. Halloween is coming up and it would be boring if everyone dressed the same way. Ninjas are obviously super cool and many people love ones like Naruto so many end up dressing like them. Feel and look cool with our rocket costume: “RockOne” because it just might (weasel word) make you the #1 BEST DRESSED costumer of the night. Stand out from the rest with our CUSTOMIZABLE rocket costumes. Be unique. Be fresh. Don’t be like the rest. We use a special material called SpandeY which makes the costume feel super soft and comfortable so you won’t have to worry about overly tight and uncomfortable wedgies. (Magic Ingredient)

The idea that the costume will make you seem cooler is rooted in the universal understanding that concepts such as ninjas and rockets are cool or interesting especially to younger kids. Word choices like “BEST DRESSED” and “CUSTOMIZABLE” are used to garner interest. For example, AirPods are pretty common but some people were intrigued by the choice of customizing them through carving your name onto the case.

Logos: Our competitors like Company X and Y sell their rocket costumes for $29.99 but the materials they use are rough like nylon because they are cheap! Nylon is merely $5.99 by the yard whereas our products use 99.9% silk and super ultra thin durable 75% SpandeY. The silk we use is $19.99 by the yard and the SpandY ranges from $8.99 to $11.99 by the yard and yet our rocket costume is ONLY $18.99 which is 36.7% cheaper than the costumes from Company X and Y. With our products, you can look cool and unique all for the small small price of $19.99! Always dressing up as a ninja can be pretty expensive due to the inflated prices of 100% cotton, but wearing our rocket costume can make you look just as cool as when you’re dressed in your usual attire. With RocketOne, you can switch things up without having to burn a hole through your pocket.

By using the logic of numbers such as cheaper prices, we can promote our products while comparing material costs and convincing consumers that our product is “a steal”. Comparing the costs will make the consumer wonder why they should have to pay almost 20$ more for a product of lower quality than the cheaper alternative with much higher quality. The logic is that the costs to produce our product are higher than the competitors’ and yet we’re selling it for 37% cheaper. Our consumer (which is the ninja) naturally has to spend quite a few big bucks on their everyday attire and they might be afraid to switch up their look because it usually costs a pretty penny but if those attires are cheaper, then ninjas might consider buying our product especially since rockets are cool just like them.

My target audience are bullies and my product is the hair brush. The color scheme of the advertisement is mainly red and purple. Red is often associated with intensity and it’s the color that draws people’s attention the most. Purple is associated with power and strength, so the usage of it seemed fitting for a product targeted to bullies, people who crave control. The main rhetorical appeal used was ethos with the customer reviews. A bully reading that the product was strongly recommended by a professor of bullyology and the head bully of a school might be more inclined to purchase it because they would think that what worked for that head bully would also work for them. The review by the head bully uses pathos by threatening the bullies into buying the brush or else they wouldn’t seem like “true” bullies. Since it plays into their insecurities, pathos is arguably the most effective appeal because bullies act on emotion. It also uses the bandwagon technique with the “only losers don’t have this” comment by suggesting that they should buy the product so they wouldn’t be the only one without it. The “buy one get one 20% off” is an example of bribery which makes customers believe that what I’m selling is a good deal. The rhetorical appeal of logos was used with the “used in 1m+ schools worldwide” and “up to 50% more victims”. Seeing that the product is used by so many and is more effective than other bullying methods would make bullies want to buy it.

For this assignment, I created an advertisement for a Mask Crown, with the target audience being bullies. First of all, throughout the entire advertisement, I made sure to use colors that would pop out and capture the reader's attention, and also used the size of the font for certain parts to make some phrases stand out more. In the ad, I used logos by saying that this product was 99% effective, appealing to the audience's logical side since they are more likely to buy a product if they know it works well.

Secondly, I used ethos towards the bottom of the page by saying that this product was used and is endorsed by “Van Haut, The bully who never got caught.” I also used the phrase “the item all bullies NEED” to make the audience feel obligated to buy the product, and suggesting that by not buying it, they will not be a part of the bandwagon.

Thirdly, I used bribery by saying that the Mask Crown came with a free lock pick (that opens any lock in under 30 seconds) to provide the audience with even more of an incentive to buy this product. This also connects to the 50% off sale that I created for this item.

I also connected with the audience by suggesting some difficulties they may have, like being recognized and caught, and provided them with this solution that hides your identity and ensures that they will never be caught again. Another way I connected to the audience was by appealing to the “beginner bullies” and saying that they will get them started and are easy to use.

Finally, I provided the audience with a few facts about the functionality of the product, like “adjustable straps” and “concealing fabric” that would make it even more likely that a bully would be interested and buy this product.

The statistic that “1 in every 3 taxi drivers have had passengers who have stolen money from their tip jars” is an example of logos. Pathos is then used when taxi drivers, who are the primary audience members, are asked if they want to be the next taxi driver to have their tips taken from them by a passenger. The statistic and the question are both used to instill fear in the taxi drivers that read the advertisement. The purpose of this ad is to persuade taxi drivers to buy the Bowl Sword and the fear they feel after reading the ad may push them to do just that. Ethos is used at the very bottom of the advertisement, where there is a review from a fellow taxi driver. This taxi driver, by the name of Carl Smith, mentions in his review of the product that he has been a taxi driver for over 40 years. This means that he is a credible source of information when it comes to driving taxis and other taxi drivers might think that, because the Bowl Sword helped Carl, it could help them, too.

The persuasive techniques of avant garde and bribery are used in this advertisement. Avant garde is used when the advertisement states that the product is made using “state of the art technology”. Taxi drivers might think that they will be ahead of the times if they buy this product because the words “state of the art” make the product seem futuristic in a way. Bribery is used when the company, Swordology, gives the audience a promo code to use in order to get 50% off on a second Bowl Sword. This may persuade taxi drivers to buy the Bowl Sword because they can get 2 Bowl Swords for a lower price than usual.

I decided to use many different colors to try and make some of the words stand out from the rest. Doing this allows me to highlight the words that I believed were most important in persuading the audience to buy the product. Using many different colors will also help catch the attention of taxi drivers if they were to see this advertisement posted on a bulletin board or in a newspaper.

Fatma Barakat

10/12/21

AP Lang Pd 10

The two rhetorical appeals that I chose to use are pathos and logos. I used pathos by depicting the blistered hand to evoke discomfort and fear within my audience. My target audience is witches. The blisters come from gripping their brooms for too long, and my product will help fix that issue. My purpose in making them uncomfortable was to help sell my product. They wouldn’t want their hands to end up like that because that would be painful, so they would take the precautionary measure and buy my product to help protect them.

The second rhetorical appeal I used was logos. I thought that numbers and statistics would stick out the most on a short ad that people would only take a short glimpse at. The purpose of my statistics was to prove that my creation would be useful for witches. I claimed that 3 out of 4 witches were suffering from blisters, which meant that the witch reading my ad could very much be one of those people. My second main use of logos was claiming that 7 out of 10 witches have already invested in my creation. This was also an example of a bandwagon because many other witches are buying and using my product, which could influence the audience just as much as the statistic could.

The creative choices I made mostly revolved around my color scheme. I made sure to make the blisters on the hand prominent and bloody. I also made the broom the same color as the darker red, which represented dry blood on the hand. I chose this because the broom was the source of the pain, so I wanted the colors to match and be symbolic. I made my product pink because I thought that was a warm and welcoming color. My product will put an end to the pain and ensure that blisters never occur, so rather than a red or dark red that represented blood and pain, I switched to a warm pink. Lastly, I made some of my bold words green and purple. I thought that green and purple were witchy colors and that would appeal to my witch audience the most.

Various rhetoric appeals and strategies were utilized throughout the process of creating an advertisement selling a foodlight to Santa. As the primary audience of this commercial was Santa, a friendly Christmas character who is known for his welcoming attitude, present-giving tactics, and insane love for freshly-baked cookies and warm milk, I attempted to use specific colors, quotes, and examples that related more to him than any other audience. The main rhetorical appeals that I included were ethos and pathos. In terms of ethos, I made an effort to include several sources of credibility to demonstrate how the magic foodlight was approved by various prestigious organizations. On the top of the paper is written “National Association of Food Equipment and Tools” or NAFET to illustrate the validity of the item and the organization that created it. On the bottom of the paper I have inserted five more prestigious management companies that have approved the foodlight 100%, providing the audience with the fact that this is a trusted product that is safe to use and reliable in its given circumstances. Moreover, I also utilized pathos in my advertisement mainly through the visual aspects and images. I tried to use vibrant colors of Christmas, mainly green and red, to make the poster stand out and I included images of the lamp and individuals who were quoted on the device’s efficacy.

Moreover, I applied several of the persuasive techniques to the rhetorical appeals in my ad as a means of luring the audience into my poster. With ethos and logos, I employed the techniques of avante garde and bribery and expressed the product in a positive light to make it seem as if Santa was missing out on the delicacies of this food light. Not only that but I made sure to utilize some facts and instructions on how to use the foodlight to delineate the benefits of using this device. Overall, the rhetorical devices that I used in creating this advertisement were specifically aimed at attracting the attention of Santa through my visual appeals and showing the purpose that I want my audience to buy this product.

The purpose of the advertisement was to promote a product, called “The Future Balloon,” specifically to the zombie population. Since zombies were the targeted demographic, they were represented in the flyer to show the group using the product. The Future Balloon is a new mode of transportation advertised for fast traveling with no inconvenience. The flyer is set in an urban setting. It shows lots of traffic and zombies walking slowly, showing the inconveniences of standard modes of transportation. On the other hand, at the top, it shows zombies in the Future Balloon, who are traveling at top speeds (signified by “whoosh”). The high speeds of the Future Balloon is further supported through ethos and logos. Firstly, the flyer presents Lewis Hamilton, a renowned racecar driver, who endorses the product. He states that the product is faster than the race car he competes in and states that it is equipped with innovative technology. Secondly, the advertisement statement asserts that it can travel up to 250 mph. The advertisement also uses logos by affirming its positive attributes. First of all, it describes the car as having self-driving and noise-canceling abilities. This implies that users will experience serenity, as the product will provide a calm, quiet ambiance with minimal management of the vehicle needed to operate. Second of all, it explains that the vehicle “is 100% environmentally friendly and emits no harmful greenhouse gases” because it is completely solar-powered. This is a significant factor for potential consumers to know since climate change and other environmental issues are a major concern in the current generation, especially in city-like settings, where cars and factories cause an extensive amount of pollution. The statement, therefore, alludes to the product being a huge stepping stone in the sustainability movement. The advertisement statement ends with a bandwagon, as it tells users to be “in the future.” The flyer also persuades the audience to purchase the product by using bribery. At the corner of the flyer, it presents a tempting offer: the first 400 people who call the number will receive a huge discount. The offer is outlined in red and filled with yellow to draw the audience’s attention since it contrasts with the blue color scheme. The color blue is utilized throughout the flyer because of its myriad of meanings. Not only is the light blue representing the sky, to indicate that consumers will ‘be above the clouds” (motto), but it also shows the serenity that comes with the product from its modern features. The darker shade of blue, utilized in the title of the product and the outline of the statements signifies the power of the Future Balloon.

The advertisement for the shield crown uses pathos, logos, and ethos to convey to the audience (witches and wizards) that they should purchase one of the shield crowns from Spooksvania Manufacturing. One example of logos is that I used the statistic that the bubble shield can be stretched two to four times its size. This shows how versatile the shield is, especially since different witches/wizards may have different sized heads due to the length of their noses. Moreover, I included the statistic that over 3000 witches used the shield crown to show that many people in Spooksvania use this shield crown. This strategy is also known as the bandwagon technique because it pressures a witch/wizard into getting the shield crown so that they won’t be the only one without it. Lastly, I used the statistic that 50% of injuries, due to brewing potions, are prevented with the crown shield and implied that the shield crown can save witches/wizards from death as well. This is a combination of logos and pathos: the statistic works in conjunction with the feeling of fear to persuade the witches/wizards to get the accessory. Another persuasion technique used is weasel words because I only implied that the shield crown can save lives, but it is not a guarantee.

In regards to pathos, I used grandiose diction, such as “premium, transparent spider silk” and “aged dust,” to make the audience awestruck and feel like this investment would be worth it. The adjectives also make it seem like the product was made with a lot of care and effort. Additionally, I used the transfer strategy by utilizing warmer colors, such as pastel orange, purple, yellow, and pink, to give the shield crown a positive connotation in hopes of encouraging audience members to buy it. Moreover, I included the phrase “make Spooksvania proud” in bold ink at the bottom of the poster, evoking a sense of patriotism. Lastly, I said that the witches/wizards may get the shield crown at a $100 discount if they buy one before 10/31/21, creating a sense of urgency. This may lead some of the more impulsive witches or wizards to buy the product without thinking twice, because $100 in savings is a considerable amount of money.

In regards to ethos, I said that the “Spooksvania Fashion Council nominated the shield crown to be the most fashionable accessory during October 2020,” which shows that the qualities of the shield crown mentioned in the advertisement are backed up by a well-known organization. As a result, the product is able to gain some credibility. Overall, these persuasion techniques will allow for witches and wizards to buy this product.

For this project, I was assigned a teacher as my audience and a fountain computer as my item. I used a bit of each rhetorical appeal throughout my poster. Ethos was shown in my poster as I referenced J.K Rowling, one of the best writers of all time, in my poster. This was to show the credibility of my invention because if J.K Rowling uses this computer to type her books, then others can be just as good as her by using this device. I also gave them a 1 year warranty and a satisfaction guarantee proposal to show teachers how much faith I have in our product. Teachers commonly have idols that are authors and by giving them a warranty and guarantee, this helps convince them to buy my product as they won’t have to upgrade overtime.I used a bit of pathos in my poster as well. You can see throughout the poster that I tried to use various colors to help stand out what I am trying to convey and by giving the readers a more interesting visual appeal, I am trying to appeal to their emotional input towards my poster. I also talk about how my product can help solve fatigue and low energy. Teachers can easily get tired from teaching for 9 or more hours and by giving them an option to maintain a high energy, this would better convince them to buy my product. Logos is the rhetorical appeal that I used the most. I stated statistical facts about how dehydration can lead to illnesses and I stated the main features of what my product had to offer. I also stated pros that can occur when our product is used and how our product can solve various problems. Teachers are highly factual and by seeing statements that are proven to be correct, they are more likely to trust my product.

A simple introduction to the product SockDesk would be that it is a desk-like kitchen appliance that utilizes new heat tech to reheat food which is more environmentally friendly than traditional microwave ovens. The primary audience is chefs, and the secondary audience is the general public because it can be used to reheat cooked dishes and convenience foods. The main purpose of the advertisement is to persuade consumers, mainly chefs, to switch or purchase SockDesk.

With the purpose in mind, the advertisement shows the use of logos and ethos. Logos are demonstrated through the use of statistics and facts in the advertisement. For example, I used the fact that microwave usage emits an amount of carbon dioxide equivalent to seven million cars. Although this fact is not directly about the product, a comparison is made because it is later mentioned that SockDesk emits less carbon dioxide and saves energy. Some consumers might choose SockDesk because it is more environmentally friendly. Additionally, SockDesk takes 50% less time than microwaves to reheat is a fact about the product which attempts to introduce and persuade the chefs to buy the product or switch to SockDesk because it is more efficient. The use of logos in the advertisement mostly mentions the benefit of SockDesk and gives logical reasons why the consumer should choose SockDesk.

Ethos is used to play with the minds of the chefs. For instance, under the name of the product, it said 80% of chefs’ choice, where the chefs would act as the reliable experts. It also uses the advertising technique, bandwagon, because it tells the audience or chefs that the majority of them use SockDesk so they should join the crowd. The technique and appeal do not necessarily use logic and reason to persuade, however, it convinces the chefs that the product is useful because a lot of “experts” choose it. An “FDA Approved” stamp also increases reliability since they also regulate similar cookware, including microwave ovens, and thus it tells the consumers that the product is safe to use. In addition, ethos is also conveyed through endorsement because Chef Snoopy, a famous chef, promotes SockDesk by saying he would choose it. Chefs that believe that Chef Snoopy is reliable would then choose to buy the product. These examples of ethos rely on the consumer’s beliefs, and the usage of experts and federal organizations would convince the chefs to buy it because it is reliable, honest, and credible.

Similar to the aforementioned technique, bandwagon, persuasive techniques in the advertisement, including magic ingredients and patriotism also promote the product. The magic ingredient in the advertisement is the “new heat tech” and it can make the consumer curious and make the product sound more effective. For American chefs, the small letters, “Made in the United States”, gives them one more reason to purchase SockDesk because they are supporting domestic products. These techniques might not have a large influence on the consumer’s choice, however, if the chefs were to choose between the product and a foreign product, they might choose this product because it is domestic.

Overall, the advertisement uses logos and ethos as well as other persuasive techniques to persuade the chefs to choose SockDesk.

In the advertisement statement ethos and pathos were used to target the target audience, senior citizens. Ethos was used through a celebrity endorsement, of someone who holds credibility with the audience. For example, the celebrity that is used in the advertisement statement was Barack Obama. In addition, it says that the company had multiple successful products and also had the trademark symbol. Pathos, on the other hand, was used through the emotion, Nostalgia. Many senior citizens reminisce about their younger selves, which is what is targeted in the advertisement statement. To further target the audience, multiple persuasive techniques are used. First, the persuasive technique, magic ingredient is there to persuade the audience that this product is unique to any other product in the market. Next, offering the audience an incentive to purchase the product by giving an additional one for free is using bribery. Then, patriotism was included when the statement claims that using this product would support American workers, which would show your love for your country. For visual effects, showcasing what the product looked like was important. In addition, to further implement pathos, a picture of what was to be remembered was used.

The goal of the advertisement is to persuade a rockstar to purchase a food costume to boost their fame. As a result, it utilizes the three rhetorical appeals (ethos, logos, and pathos), along with other persuasive techniques in advertising, such as Avante Garde and bandwagon.

Firstly, the ad utilizes ethos due to the reference to Lady Gaga’s meat costume from the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The advertisement showcases Lady Gaga as up above the clouds on top of the rockstar, who is literally and figuratively on top of the world due to wearing the food costume. This portrayal of the renowned pop star reinforces her ethos due to how she is known for her successful musical records and dominating her presence in the spotlight with creative and extraordinary outfits and costumes. The media, at the beginning of her career, have always specifically discussed her choice of clothing, and some outlets have even dubbed those costumes as “outrageous” or “ridiculous.” However, Gaga stated that her crazy fashion choices came from a desire to take control of her fame, music, and influence, as the music industry is notorious for taking control away from smaller artists who are in the early stages of their careers, if not managed by the right team. Additionally, Kanye West is also depicted in the advertisement, wearing suspenseful outfits while promoting his most recent album, Donda. Many news and media outlets have dubbed him one of the greatest rappers of all time, and he constantly wears unthinkable outfits to further strengthen his dominance in the industry and distinguish himself among numerous other rappers from his time, such as another well-renowned rapper, Drake. West also has released a successful shoe line, Yeezy’s, which does not abide by the general structure of most shoes in stores, which further shows how the rapper’s creativity in clothing constantly puts him at an advantage in maintaining his fame. This also reinforces Kanye’s ethos due to being able to maintain his fame for over a decade, regardless of his hiatuses. Likewise, the rockstar will be able to express themselves freely and also reclaim their fame through reinforcing their stage presence if they invest in extraordinary outfits such as the food costume. They will be ahead of their times (Avante Garde) and will pave the way for newer artists in the industry to have the courage to freely express themselves and also work towards claiming their fame since the beginning of their careers.

Furthermore, the advertisement utilizes logos due to the prominent statistics used to further persuade the rockstar to purchase the food costume. Millennials and Generation Z comprises 76 million consumers with a spending power of $600 billion a year (Min et al.). Due to how this generation of consumers has grown up in a media/consumer-driven society, the rockstar can utilize media headlines of them wearing the food costume to promote their fame and popularity among the younger generations. Millennials who account for 33-35% of retail spending are able to “stay connected with brands wherever they go and [are] heavy users of technology, including smartphones and tablets,” showing how their buying and consumer powers continue to grow (Min et al.). Moreover, “when Millennials follow celebrities on social media who endorse products, they are more likely to pay attention because they tend to replicate the looks of celebrities they admire…” (Min et al.). Thus, the more a rockstar can attract consumer attention, especially through millennials who comprise a large sector of consumer culture, they can efficiently gain popularity. If the rockstar showcases their food costume constantly, they might start a new trend among Millennials and Generation Z on influential social media platforms such as Tiktok, and even Instagram or Facebook.

Lastly, the advertisement utilizes pathos to invoke fear and suspense in the rockstar. The rockstar might believe that losing popularity is alright, as long as they can retain the money they have accumulated over the years their career was active. However, there is a tombstone depicted in the advertisement because, if the rockstar loses their fame, they would not find newer brand deals and/or other forms of monetary income. On the other hand, their major source of income, performing and releasing music, would generate less than the desired revenue due to the rockstar’s audience decreasing in size. On top of that, the money one owns is limited, as it is common for artists’ net worths to decrease if their careers are inactive over an extended period of time, such as Danielle Fishel’s, Ben Savage’s, and Macaulay Culkin’s. There are newer artists, such as Billie Eilish, who have gained popularity due to wearing “out of the ordinary” outfits, thus boosting their stage presence and opening up their doors to more brand deals, partnerships, and several endorsements. Since several other artists are using this tactic, the rockstar should also join the bandwagon and experiment with the food costume. Overall, due to how several forms of generating income are blocked because of an inactive career, the only choice the rockstar has left is to wear the food costume to boost their fame and popularity through media headlines and attracting a wider audience. If the rockstar can successfully promote themselves through the food costume, they would once again have enough power to experiment with other brand deals and endorsements to further boost their fame, income, and popularity, thus having a greater chance at a more successful career. If they choose to not wear the food costume, they would not be able to distinguish themselves from the ever-growing number of artists in the spotlight today, and their career would resemble the tombstone on the advertisement.

In my project I was assigned to try and persuade senior citizens to buy a remote control water fountain. The purpose of this water fountain was to be able to reach the height of any desired user so that bending down isn’t necessary when it comes to this product.

When it came to using rhetorical devices the main ones I focused on all three main devices which are legos pathos and ethos but I elaborated on logos and pathos more. I used logos because I presented a case that states studies have shown back issues have decreased by 50% when using my product. Hearing this from someone will make them more likely to buy your product because they want to ensure their health especially for senior citizens which is my audience. I used ethos by stating how a doctor approved the product. Senior citizens are very fragile especially with their bodies since they are getting older and a doctor is a trusted person when it comes to their health. Because of this they would think getting this product is more reasonable. Lastly I used pathos by presenting a situation that all senior citizens could be able to relate to that might effect them emotionally. In this situation I said how Adam’s grandmother had been sent to the Hospital because one time when she was bending down to drink her water she had ended up breaking her back and having to be hospitalized. This may cause emotional distress as senior citizens may become worried this may happen to them. No one wants to be hospitalized Especially at such a old age where even death is a possibility. Because of this ppl may become panicked and buy the remote control fountain in order to avoid situations like this.

Other minor devices were also used in the process of this project such a snob appeal bribery and patriotism. Bribery was used because I made a deal stating u can buy one and get one free which is a great deal as you can give one to a friend or a family remember. I used patriotism by stating how supporting our company is also supporting the whole country as a whole and who doesn’t wanna support the country. I used snob appeal by saying that if you get this item you will be one of the first on the block and therefore be apart of the cool kids.

Various appeals along with persuasive techniques were incorporated into this advertising. Ethos is very prominent throughout and attempts to gain credibility. For example, on the top, it states "Brought to you by Prometheus, previously known for fire." This relates to the target audience of cavemen because they are and will always be grateful for the creation of fire for mankind. Prometheus was the Greek God who stole fire for the people and is widely known among cavemen. Ethos is also used with bandwagon techniques where it states that this incredible creation has been sold and popularized in the main mountain range communities full of other cave men. Statistics and numerical data is scattered throughout the poster which is the logos appeal. The Hair Tank can shoot 75 ignited balls per minute and burns 87 times faster than wood. Bribery is featured on the cover as well promising the consumers a Buy One get One Free Deal with different accessories that can be added to the Hair Tank. Transfer is depicted in the astonished image of the cavemen and the positive words used to describe the invention, to make it seems like a necessity and a very beneficial tool to have along one's side. For instance, "strong", "powerful", "effective", along with other benefits of this "indestructible" material. Important phrases are underlined, bolded, or in a different color which makes them stand out to the viewer. The colors incorporated throughout the project were meant to be bold and relate to the colors of the fire that is a part of the Hair Tank. Lastly, the magic ingredients technique is used to describe the components of the invention.

This advertisement uses ethos, pathos, and logos to help with the rhetorical appeal as with the background information on pro wrestlers, you can assume that most are strong and buff. With this knowledge we can use logos to help provide information on the type of desk these wrestlers might want, one that is sturdy and stronger than average. Thus by including, “More durable than America’s top brands by 75%,” we can make use of logos by giving “factual” information in order to persuade the audience. Ethos is also used as most pro wrestlers would want to buy a product that is highly recommended by another professional or one that has gained the recognition of top furniture companies. This will allow the product to be more credible, for example if Ikea(one of the top furniture companies) was to sponsor this product, its credibility will rise. The same concept will also be applicable if a top wrestler was to give his opinion on the product. The use of pathos on this advertisement is also clear as it can either evoke an emotion of guilt, as the idea of a pet in need of help will help the audience feel guilty if they don’t help and contribute to the cause. The sense of pain can also be brought about as the item itself can cause electric shock by the lasers, which in turn can help many pro wrestlers build their tolerance for their next match. This can either make them more or less likely to buy the product, but in turn if this function can be turned off and on it can prove to be more viable. The pictures used in the text, such as the electricity will help persuade the buyer that this product is powerful as well as sturdy as it can hold electricity within it.

My advertisement is all about selling a dance doll to zombies. I did this by focusing on the idea of using the dance doll to bait humans in and allow the zombies to catch the humans for their use. Keeping that in mind I tried using Ethos and Pathos. For Ethos I used a fake statistic and cited a fake source to convince the zombies that our company is reliable and that our product works well. For Pathos I inflicted a sense of happiness to the buyers by telling them to never fear about having brought nothing back home to their families. I also added the line, “the future of catching hoomans!!!” as an avante garde and combined that with a bribery of the first 50 buyers to get a 50% discount. This allowed me to give the audience the sense that they could be the first one to get this product. I used the magic ingredient technique too to persuade the audience that our product works the best because of its secret ingredient that no other company has. Lastly I included the patriotism technique by adding the fact that the product is made in Zombsmerica which is just a made up nation for where the zombies live. For the drawing I constantly added brains because zombies like brains and including will allow their eyes to be directed to the advertisement. For the doll I added the expression over the head to express that the doll is bright and it works.

For my advertisement, I needed to sell a tie-bracelet (Tie-Let) to a caveman. At first, I was unsure of how I would do that but eventually was able to come to a consensus of how I would approach this project. For starters, I needed to use some rhetorical appeals and the first thing that came to my mind was ethos. I thought of ethos first because there was one caveman celebrity that immediately came to my head, Fred Flinstone. I thought Fred Flinstone would be a good and credible representative for my product because he is very well known and universal. Also, in the show, he always wears ties, so it would make sense for him to endorse it. A second rhetorical appeal I used was pathos. I applied this rhetorical appeal through the following statement, “buy a Tie-Let and you might never stop smiling”. This hints at the audience's emotions and allows them to feel happy and good inside. I wanted to do this because, as a caveman, you are filled with a lot of high-stress tasks, such as hunting and making fires for warmth, so knowing that this Tie-Let might make their day better could be a game-changer.

Some creative choices I decided to make in support of my rhetorical appeals can be seen in the background of my ad. This visual appeal highlights a cave setting, which would embody the everyday home and life of a caveman. This also hints at the cave person's emotion of comfort and tranquility (pathos). I also used rocks and clouds to help present my different persuasive techniques, such as weasel words and bribery. I also included drawings of my Tie-Let in both of its forms (tie and bracelet), as well as it being worn on Fred Flinstone. There is also a testimonial from him indicating to people why they should purchase this product.

For my advertisement, I used a few of the persuasive techniques mentioned in the handout. These include avante garde, magic ingredients, plain folks, bribery, and bandwagon. For avante garde, I used words like new, and advanced technology to describe the product. These words make the product seem ahead of its time, and current, which in turn leads to people wanting to learn more about the product, and consider purchasing it. For magic ingredients, I used terms such as special, and only, which makes these features seem to only be available when using this product. This is shown by how I explained the layering of the balloons, as well as how it can only pop by using a special pin. I also talked about the technology used to preserve the food for an extended period of time. All of this allows the audience to see what special features the product has, which allows for it to stand out and catch their attention. Continuing on, I also used plain folks by depicting a room with the product on a table, and a television set, etc. This shows that anyone can own this product, and that it is used for everyday things, such as for eating while watching television. I also used quotes from supposed customers who supported the product. All of this gives the audience something to relate to, and since the target audience are couch potatoes, using the television example gives them a reason to buy the product. I also used bribery in this ad. This is shown in how the set is only $7.99 for 4 meals, as well as how you can get a free set with your first purchase. This encourages the audience to buy the product, by offering cheap prices and first time offers to anyone who buys the product. This leads to the audience thinking that it’s a good and worthy deal. Lastly, I used bandwagon appeal. This is present from the quotes of people who used and recommended it, as well as the stats showing how many people are repeat customers. This makes the audience not want to be left out, and makes them think that if so many people like it, it must be good. Another part of the ad was when I mentioned how door delivery made it so that the customer did not even have to leave their house, which for couch potatoes meant that they could continue lazing around and avoid having to go to a restaurant, etc. With these techniques, I also used ethos and logos. The ethos was used when I mentioned how the food was formulated by top chefs, as well as how Gordon Ramsay apparently liked the food. This brings out the credibility of the product by showing that while it’s being delivered pre-packed in a balloon, it does not impact the taste of the food at all, and is in fact delicious. For logos, it was when I included the statistic that 97% of customers come back to make more purchases as well as how the food can last for up to 2 months. The statistics help show how successful the product is, as well as the demand it has from customers. The lasting of the product shows how preserved it is, as well as how advanced the product works. Finally, the visual appeals used were both colorful and descriptive, and they were meant to be informative and eye-catching so that the audience takes an interest in the product, and understands it. When all of these persuasive techniques, rhetorical appeals, and visual appeals combine, they help make the advertisement more likely to convince the audience to buy the product.

My advertisement promotes KIT: ShirtKit to senior citizens. KIT: ShirtKit is essentially a briefcase of materials for a DIY shirt. I made it very colorful so that seniors can feel at ease and young, as it might be offensive to call them old. I specifically wrote “super fun & easy to do with grandchildren” to highlight that I am targeting the seniors. Most seniors are grandparents and they are proud of that, so they might want to spend the last decades of their lives with their children’s children. I wanted to make the ad exciting, interesting, unique, and full of information so that senior citizens can feel the same way I do for this shirt kit.

I included Logos on the bottom left corner of the advertisement, where it states, “Our researchers say that making and wearing this shirt might boost your spirits up by 62% more than DIY bracelets would.” The statistic 62% is not real, but the number gives a “fact” about the product. In addition, I included “might” as a “weasel word”, one of the techniques listed on the paper. The “might” works because it says that the company’s researchers provided such information and not from certified scientists from all over the country.

On the bottom right corner of the advertisement, there is the Fairy Godmother from “Cinderella (1950)” to demonstrate Ethos. She is a well-known character , as well as an elderly lady. Putting her and her words there provides an example to the audience that the shirt kit is advanced enough for the Fairy Godmother to make her “dream shirt” from several simple materials that are not listed on the ad. The audience would tend to follow the given example and may hope to become like the Fairy Godmother.

The many colors popping out on the advertisement portray a childish atmosphere, which can make the audience excited and happy. I also chose a few shades of purple for KIT because I researched that purple can represent “thoughtfulness”, which is the T in KIT, so I wanted to display this extravagant yet basic color to symbolize how being thoughtful and considerate to others, especially to seniors, is important. In the center of the ad, the briefcase’s brown helps calm and neutralizes the rainbows on the paper, and the smile of the kit’s handle can also make the audience smile from looking at it—because I did. I bolded the important words on the ad with various colors to emphasize their relationships with the product. For example, “fun” and “easy” are important to convey because those are a couple of adjectives that may intrigue the audience to keep looking, especially since we live in a time period of convenience. In addition to the colors, the informal diction makes it easier for the seniors to comprehend and see, especially if their eyesight is failing due to age. Overall, the purpose of the colors and the simple words is just to make the audience happy, like how I am with the result.

As for techniques, I used two of them from the list provided. I mentioned previously that “Weasel Words” was used for the Logos part. The researchers’ research does not guarantee that the product will actually make a senior citizen much happier than a DIY bracelet would. The vagueness of the word “everything” also suggests that the kit may or may not have everything that is needed to make a wonderful shirt. A few things might go missing during packaging or what is expected might not be included at all. I also used “Bribery” on the top left of the advertisement, where it states, “Buy 1 Get 2 Free!” as a limited time deal. I believe that senior citizens may want to save money even if they get money from the government, so getting the most out of something is ideal. I wrote “Money back guaranteed” underneath it as well to emphasize that this company is trustworthy and understands how to make proper refunds.

My task was to create an advertisement on rocket hammers with the intended audience being cavemen. My advertisement uses all three rhetorical appeals, ethos, logos, and pathos. My advertisement uses ethos by stating that the rocket hammer is made by NASA, made from the latest Rocket Technology, and saying that it is used by the strongest. Saying that it has the latest technology and is made by NASA conveys that the hammer is very modern and of the highest quality, which is why it should be bought. Saying that it is used by the strongest conveys that the best cavemen are using this product, so the consumer should do so as well. My advertisement uses logos by giving descriptions of specific parts of the product. For example, the diagram states that the hammer shoots lava, which makes it good for fighting, and the handle is made to be adjusted for anyone who is using it. These points help explain what the hammar does and why it is so great. My advertisement uses pathos through the image on the bottom. It shows a very strong looking person holding the hammer. This is to convey that whoever has the rocket hammer will be and feel powerful like the person in the image. My advertisement uses various persuasive techniques as well. For example, I used the “Avante Garde” method by saying that the hammer is using the latest rocket technology, conveying that it is very modern and encouraging the audience to buy it. I also use the “Bribery” method by stating that if you buy one now you’ll get lifetime warranty for free. In addition there are extra statements in the advertisement to grab the audience's attention. For example, on the bottom left corner it is stated that the product is nearly sold out, conveying the audience to buy it as soon as possible. It is also stated “Money back Guarantee,” which makes the consumer feel comforted when considering purchasing the item. Using all these rhetorical appeals and persuasive techniques is what makes the advertisement compelling.

For my advertisement I had to market a “kite camera” to a caveman demographic.I chose to start my advertisement with the headlining question: “Are You A Bad Hunter?” to provoke some kind of an emotional response within the target audience, demonstrating the use of the rhetorical appeal pathos.Since hunting was essential to the survival of cavemen, they would feel particularly bad or disappointed in themselves if they were not at least proficient in this necessary skill.

I also used ethos in my ad by citing the very well known “celebrity” caveman, Fred Flintstone. This demonstrates to viewers that they can trust the advertisement and company because if someone like Fred Flintstone is endorsing the product then it could actually be worth buying.

I also used logos through the listing of statistics that made the product (She Eye) look like a beneficial purchase. The advertisement states that “More than 50% of users say that their hunts were more successful” and “more than 75% of users say that they feel more respected by their friends and family.” These two statistics help to further solidify the reasoning behind why a user would want to buy “Sky Eye.”

One of the persuasive techniques that I used in my advertisement was “bribery.” At the bottom of the ad I included a deal stating that if you purchase two of the “Sky Eye” products then the second one will be 50% off. Everyone loves a good discount hence this deal is intended to entice the audience into purchasing more of the product.

Overall, I chose to use bright red colors to outline the main headlines and important details presented in the ad. For the Sky Eye Logo I went with a blue color which quite obviously is representative of the sky. I also gave the logo a pair of wings on either side and surrounded it with the silhouettes of birds to emphasize the idea that this camera product gives you a “bird’s eye view.”

The primary two rhetorical appeals I used in my advertisement were ethos and logos, though one line towards the end did briefly touch on pathos as well. In my advertisement I mentioned previous products the designers of the Drum Fan (my product) had made, which should build credibility for the product and designers in the eyes of the consumer. This was my primary attempt at appealing to ethos. I mention how this product uses the latest technology, which is an attempt to appeal to logos through the “Magic Ingredient” technique. I also appealed to logos by claiming that Magic Healers, presumably important people in cave society (another point for ethos), thought that drum related overheating would be a major issue going forward. And this should present a logical need for the product to the Caveman consumer. Additionally I claim that these products were constructed in local caves by local workers, which should appeal somewhat to the caveman's sense of patriotism and local cave pride, so this is an attempt at utilizing pathos. And finally, in the background some excellent drum playing is heard, which is an attempt at subconsciously suggesting to the listener that with this new product they too could drum this well.

The purpose of my advertisement is to convince the target audience (couch potatoes) to purchase a product called the Sock Plant. My advertisement utilizes ethos and pathos to persuade the audience. To establish credibility, the advertisement claims that couch potatoes all over the world rated the Sock Plant five out of five stars. This strategy introduces statistics from experts the audience can relate to, and therefore, trust the opinion of. Additionally, the advertisement evokes feelings of happiness and jealousy through the before and after results from a buyer of the Sock Plant; therefore convincing the audience that they too can be cool and gain the affection of Megan Fox by purchasing the Sock Plant. Secondly, the advertisement evokes feelings of discomfort and annoyance through the description of laying around with cold feet and rummaging through washing machines looking for socks. The target audience can relate to the emotions portrayed by these descriptions, making it easier to convince them that the product will solve these problems. Additionally, my advertisement uses other persuasive techniques to convince the audience to purchase the product. My advertisement suggests that purchasing the product will elevate the life of the consumer, that millions of regular Americans have already purchased the product and that the consumer should join, and even offers the deal that if you buy one, you get one free. The use of these appeals targets a specific consumer, making the advertisement more successful.

For my commercial, my job was to create an advertisement for Pro Wrestlers to buy my product, Art Shirts. It sounds far-fetched, but using an effective combination of mainly Ethos and Logos, with a little bit of Pathos, I was able to make an effective advertisement. With Ethos, I used customer reviews to help sway my target audience that I was a reputable seller. I also used Ethos when I cited who the shirts were made by, a reputable company, MegaMan Corporation. I also used Logos to sway my Pro Wrestlers to buying my shirts. In a picture of the shirt, I had big arrows pointed to different parts of the shirts saying things like: “New Flexible Material!”, and “Stain Resistant!”. By doing this, I was hoping to sway the viewers with a little factual information. In addition to these two main rhetorical appeals, I used Pathos in my visual of the Pro Wrestler with a ripped shirt. I tried to make the visual relatable to the Pro Wrestler’s watching and hoped to invoke a reaction of anger. Finally, I also used some persuasive techniques such as Bribery and Weasel Words to help get my product in my target audience’s face.

The product that I am selling is called Santa Sun Spell. When he recites the spell, this product will make Santa and his presents invisible. In order to appeal this to Santa, the advertisement uses ethos. On the top of the advertisement it states, “The creators of the beloved Santa Sleigh present” to establish credibility by mentioning a popular product that Santa utilizes a lot and knows is very effective. In addition, the advertisement includes pathos. On the left side of the advertisement, an illustration of Santa running out of time to deliver presents can be seen. This will make Santa relate to the pressure of delivering presents all in one night. The right side shows Santa delivering presents three days before Christmas morning –without being seen– when the spell is in effect. The contrast will make Santa want to feel relaxed like how it is shown on the right side of the advertisement. A specific persuasive technique I used in the advertisement is avante garde. In order to portray this, I included statements such as “never before seen” and “be the first to try”. These statements highlight to Santa that he needs to be the first to try a revolutionary product that will change his job forever. The advertisement also includes bribery by offering a red and purple hat for free with the sun spell. Hats are very important for Christmas and a free hat will give him another reason to buy this product. The ‘before’ side of the advertisement has brighter colors and bigger proportions because I wanted to draw Santa’s attention to the problem he faces. When Santa focuses on the problem, he will feel compelled to change his circumstance by purchasing the sun spell. In addition to this, I made the spell’s paper purple instead of a traditional white or beige color. The uniqueness of the paper will make Santa look at the product for longer and this may convince him to buy a product he hasn’t come across.

The product I am selling is a future trap, where you can look into the future to efficiently catch your enemies. It also comes with a net to make the process easier. To advertise this product, I used ethos and pathos. Ethos helped with convincing the ninjas with facts. It mentioned how 9 out of 10 ninjas approve of the product so the ninjas are inclined to believe that it is actually effective since the majority of users think the same. To further that statement, an experienced ninja vouched for the future trap which builds the audience's trust on the product because an experienced ninja knows what they’re talking about more often than not. Additionally, I used pathos to connect with the audience emotionally. I mentioned how 1 out of 4 ninjas are unsuccessful in their mission, which inflicts fear of dying and leaving their loved ones behind. The ad says that with the product, they are bound to be successful, so ninjas will buy it to guarantee a future for themselves. For the visual appeal, I drew a ninja laughing and claiming that the other person can’t hide because he knows everything due to the product looking into the future. Next to the ninja a prisoner is shown inside our advertised net and he is asking for help because the net is so strong that he can’t escape. This shows the effectiveness of both items included in the product. The ninja will be shown these two rhetorical appeals which will convince them that the product is something worth buying and that it will be beneficial to get it.

For my advertisement assignment I was supposed to create an ad that was selling diamond shields to paparazzi. At first, I thought this was easy. A diamond shield seems really cool. Then I realised that most people would not be able to afford a diamond shield. I tried to figure out a way to try to get people to buy it. Then I figured if someone is buying a shield made out of a metal like steel, I could say that this shield will be more effective since diamond is harder than steel. So I put two hundred and seventy percent more effective than leading shields. However, I knew this would not be enough. So I decided to put in a limited time “Halloween Special”. My item would be fifteen percent off until November first. Many people love the idea that they’re getting something for less than they normally would. I then realized that if I wanted to make a good advertisement, I would need a good way to depict my sales product. So I took a lot of time to draw my shield. I was combining logos and pathos to make my advertisement. The fact that the diamond shield was two hundred and seventy percent more effective than leading shields was my logos aspect. The drawing of the shield with the limited time deal was meant to incite some desire in whoever would see it. This would be the pathos aspect. However, I realised I still hadn't done anything for my target audience, the paparazzi. To me, this was the hardest part of the assignment. I just could not figure out a way to sell diamond shields to paparazzi. Then I thought that if I can’t target them through the product, maybe I can target them some other way. A paparazzi’s job is simple: take pictures of celebrities. Most celebrities in America live in either New York or California. So I made it a chain of stores that exist in New York and California.

Neshaan Reed

October 9 2021

AP English Period 6

The concept of advertising has existed for centuries. From the earliest forms of commercial messaging, dating back to Ancient Rome, to the modern commercials that dominate the world today, advertising has played a major role in developing the world we live in today. All commercials utilize rhetoric, which is defined by Aristotle as the art of observing in any given case the “Available means of persuasion”. Such means of persuasion include Ethos, an appeal to credibility, Pathos, an appeal to the emotions, and Logos, and appeal to evidence and reasoning. For my advertisement, I utilized such persuasive techniques to appeal to my audience.

The product I chose was Future Money, and my target audience were sports fans. I named my product Gridironcoin, which is a digital currency that will be used as a payment for athletes in the future. I utilized Pathos in my advertisement by asking the audience whether they wanted to be rich and successful like their favorite athletes. This question appeals to the emotions by having the audience question their socioeconomic status. This rhetorical appeal is useful in establishing the central idea of my advertisement, and immediately have my audience consider if Gridironcoin will positively affect their lives. Later on, I utilized Ethos by including a quote from NFL Legend Tom Brady. This question appeals to credibility because of Brady’s position in the sports world today. Brady states, “I firmly believe that Gridironcoin is the future currency of sports, and is the next step in establishing relationships with the fans'' -Tom Brady (via The Associated Press 10/8/21). This quote indicates that Brady is a firm believer in Gridironcoin, and believes that it will be beneficial in developing the critical relationship between athletes and fans. I also cited the source as coming from the Associated Press, a well known, unbiased news outlet. Because this comes from an unbiased source, the audience is aware that there is minimal bias in my advertisement. Towards the end of my advertisement, I utilized Logos by stating data from a survey. A group of researchers from NYU surveyed NFL players and found that 98.2% of NFL players would prefer to be payed in Gridironcoin, than in dollars. The use of specific percentages conveys the idea that the data presented is accurate. Also, the social status of the surveyors themselves are no longer in question, as I mention that they are from a prestigious university. I also include a graph, which clearly indicates the number of athletes who approve of Gridironcoin has substantially increased.

Advertising plays a critical role in establishing the relationship between a speaker and their audience. The use of rhetorical appeals help persuade the audience into performing an action. In my advertisement, the use of rhetorical appeals are evident, and are used to persuade sports fans into purchasing Gridironcoin, a future digital currency. The use of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are essential in my advertisement, and are key factors in the art of persuasion.

In order to advertise the Laser Spear™ to cavemen, I used different rhetorical appeals and visuals. In the advertisement, it is stated that my product brought down the unsatisfactory rates of hunters by 47 percent. This part uses logos by persuading through statistics. This advertisement also appeals to ethos because it states that this product has been used and approved by famous caveman Jichael B. Mordan. It also uses ethos by including “™” to show that this company is official and professional. The visuals in the advertisement portray that the Laser Spear™ would make the hunter better and happier. The caveman with a Laser Spear™ is depicted as happy and accomplished while the caveman without one is sad and hungry. The advertisement also appeals to cavemen through bribery, saying that if a caveman presents their official caveman I.D. they get 20 percent off their first purchase. There is also an offer of having a payment plan in order to persuade the customer into thinking that the pricing is reasonable. The advertisement also uses a pros and cons list where “weasel words” are being used to imply that this product is perfect. A lot goes into persuading and appealing to a certain audience when creating advertisements and rhetorical appeals are used to help writers achieve this.

On the top, I appealed to the hostage’s sense of desperation by reminding them of how good their life was when they were free. I also established that Tie Feathers are a trustworthy product by including testimony by someone who has a successful experience with the product, and using statistics from victims of hostage situations. In addition, I added multiple persuasive advertising strategies such as “plain folks,” “weasel words,” and “magic ingredients.” The testimony stated that any ordinary person can use Tie Feathers, and that you could be like her, an escapee. I also stated that Tie Feathers have special patented technology, showing how it is a more special product than others like it. All of the techniques I used work together to convince my audience, hostages, that they should purchase Tie Feathers.

In my advertisement for HairSpear, I sought a way to use rhetorical appeals in both subtle and not-so-subtle ways. The first, and most obvious appeal would be that of ethos. Using testimonials from Johnny Rotten (from the Sex Pistols), an established musician who can attest to the product’s usage and merits, and from Nemo (from Baton Sweets), a hot new figure on the music scene who uses the product, means the product is lent credibility from people who might span demographics. Falling somewhere between logos and ethos, the inclusion of before and after pictures can lead to non-scientific conclusions being drawn by the audience. In my opinion, both models in the before and after have immaculate hair, but the way the two are presented paints the before as an obvious negative and the after as the positive, as well as showing what the product can do for the users.

Pathos is often considered the most powerful advertisement appeal because using emotions to motivate the audience has been proven successful over and over. In my opinion, heartfelt messages that bring you to tears such as the ASPCA’s commercials on animal cruelty are utilizing pathos (and well at that), but I tried to use a more subtle approach. While using musical artists’ assurances to give the product credibility, the usage of the product by young and/or popular artists is doubled and tripled down on in the advertisement, seeking to make it clear that an unconscious correlation will be drawn between the product and the fame of the users. There’s also the usage of words that are directly meant for musical artists, such as emphasizing that “you'll be set for any stage, no matter how big!”, meaning the product will feel like it is meant for them and therefore they should have it. The usage of puns (for example, “More Than Words” is a song by the hair metal band Extreme) adds some levity and fun while reinforcing the bent of the product to be marketed towards musicians. Lastly, the color scheme of red/green/blue makes the advertisement pop and captures the energy of the music and the makers that the product is marketed towards.

In my advertisement, it primarily centers around the benefits and advantages of purchasing tie-wings by nurses, which are ties that contain a small storage box that appears like a pair of wings. This storage box holds some of the most important medical equipment that nurses should have during their visit or check-up with patients at the hospital. These equipments are bandages, pocket thermometers, medical tapes, and medical scissors. The purpose of this product is to save time, promote better care for patients, and to allow hospitals located in rural areas to also have easy access to these items. Other benefits such as the product’s convenience and its role in increasing trust, credibility, and professionalism in medical professions such as being a nurse are also considered. Throughout my advertisement, three rhetorical appeals that I’ve utilized to persuade the target audience, nurses, to purchase my product are logos, ethos, and pathos. Logos are present in my advertisement because of the presence of statistical rates of inadequate medical equipment in rural and low income countries. For example, my advertisement highlights the fact that according to The World Health Organization, about 50 to 80 percent of hospitals in poor, rural areas are lacking the medical equipment needed to continue quality health check-ups, visits, etc. The statistical number implies that logos are utilized because it encourages the purchase of this product. Likewise, ethos is also utilized in my advertisement by stating the statistical findings and facts regarding the lack of medical equipment in some areas of the world from popular, credible organizations. For instance, the NBCI news and The World Health Organization are both reliable and trustworthy sources that most people would choose to believe in when it comes to issues on public health. Lastly, pathos is spotlighted in my advertisement through the positive approvals from the nurses depicted in the advertisement. The smiling face and the thumbs-up emoji are all forms of approval that the advertisement is trying to convey to the audience regarding the product, tie-wings, thus delineating the use of pathos through the emotional response it tries to call. Furthermore, the visual appeals such as the illustration of what’s inside the tie-wings as well as the two nurses’ approval play a critical role in making the whole advertisement much more convincing. It persuades the audience to believe that purchasing tie-wings is an advantageous choice to make.

In my advertisement, I used two of the three rhetorical appeals, logos and pathos. I used logos in the sentence where I state that “Just think about all the time, effort, and food you could save if you used the corpse feather!” This appeals to the reader’s logic because it gives an idea to the audience of how much it could help them in their day-to-day lives. I also appeal to pathos when I say, “it’s the worst feeling in the world...” because it appeals to the audience’s frustration and sadness when they have to leave prey behind, allowing the item to seem more useful and the advertisement more relatable. Also, adding the limited edition label at the top makes the audience believe that if they purchase the product they will be ahead of other cavemen and hunters. Finally, the use of a real customer review of 10/10 gives some credibility to the product because it was used and was given a great review, this is an example of ethos.

For my advertisement, I chose to use the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos. I used ethos by citing famous pro wrestler John Cena and a review he made of my product. By showing that such a successful pro wrestler uses my product and was able to win by using it, it grants credibility and will make other pro wrestlers aware that someone high among them trusts in my product. I used logos by quoting a study done by Harvard Business about the benefits of having goals to show the importance and benefits of using my product. Pathos was used when I chose to draw a figure representing John Cena winning the WWE Belt in the image in the photo pillow. This image was used to evoke hope that by using the photo pillow, other pro wrestlers can win and achieve success just as John Cena did. Another instance in which I used ethos was in my slogan “Don’t let your dreams just stay dreams; turn them into reality with the help of the pillow photo!!”. Similar to the prior usage of ethos, this slogan is used to evoke strong positive emotions such as hope and motivation that with the help of this product anything is possible.

In terms of visual appeal, I used the colors black and red because those colors relate to the WWE belt, which I thought would help to grab the attention of pro wrestlers through the use of pathos, by evoking emotions of recognition and interest. For the color of the pillow in the model, I used the color blue, because it is associated with good sleep. I also drew two snoring cloud bubbles at the top of the advertisement because snoring is commonly associated with good sleep, which is something that I want my consumers to associate my product with.

My product the Photo Laser can be used to start fires quickly under any circumstance and I persuaded cavemen to buy it utilizing pathos, logos, and ethos. For example, I appealed to the caveman’s emotional side by sympathizing with their struggles of getting caught in the rain, not being able to find shelter, their family being cold, and not being able to start a fire because all of the wood is wet. By doing so the caveman will want to buy my product because I created a scenario where it will be useful. Furthermore, I also appealed to their emotional side by making them feel left out when I stated, that more than 5 million cavemen were already using the Photo Laser. That feeling of inferiority will persuade them to buy the product because they want to be like everyone else. Additionally, I used logos, by stating a fact that it is 50% more likely to start a fire in 30 seconds using a Photo Laser than a flintstone. By providing the target audience with concrete evidence they will buy my product because I proved it is better than the alternative. Not only that, but I also utilized weasel words and bribery to influence the audience; I applied the former when I stated, that it was 100% guaranteed that the photo laser will almost always start a fire. I utilized the latter technique by giving the cavemen a free pound of kindling for every purchase made, which makes them think they’re getting a deal making it more likely for them to actually buy the product. Lastly, the most convincing technique was when I untilized ethos by saying Guy recommends this product. Guy is a character from Crood, a DreamWorks animation, and he is known for his inventions that help the Crood family, a family of caveman, on their journey to the land of light. For example, he created shoes, a sled, umbrellas, sunglasses, and a seesaw. If someone as trustworthy and well known as Guy supports my product then that will increase the credibility of my invention. By utilizing these persuasive techniques the audience should be able to understand why they need to purchase my product.

The product that I am advertising is a kite remote controller. This kite is unlike any other kite you’ve seen before; it is solar-powered and does not require wind to fly. My target audience are chefs, so it would only make sense for it to contribute to food. This kite can cook food, using heat from the sun! How cool is that? If you look closely at my poster, you will see a bunch of reasons why you should purchase this product.

My poster uses all three rhetorical appeals to appeal to the audience. An example of ethos is the review that Gordon Ramsay gave, rating the product 10 out of 10. Gordon Ramsay is a famous chef known for being strict and blunt. If he says something is good, then it is likely that others will consider his recommendation when purchasing the kite remote controller. Both his credibility and reputation help in promoting this product. In addition, I mentioned how this product was featured in an MIT Technology Review Magazine. MIT is a very prestigious research University and is known for creating a lot of successful entrepreneurs/alumni. If the kite remote controller has been reviewed and approved by someone from MIT, that means that this product can be trusted and is of high quality. For logos, I provided quantitative data showing that cooking with this kite helps to reduce air pollutants by up to 10%. The data uses both logos and ethos because while it is using statistics to convince the customer to buy the product, it also makes the customer feel as if they are doing something good for the environment if they buy it. Lastly, saying that this product is fun to use, evokes an emotional response in the consumer. Remote controllers are associated with television, drones, and many more fun activities, so it might lure the customer into buying the kite. You can now cook while having some fun outdoors!

Some other persuasive techniques I used are Avante Garde and patriotism. I stated that this product uses technology ahead of our time, which makes the audience think that if they purchase it, they are considered better than others and more special. They will be superior compared to those without it. I also didn’t forget to mention that the product is made in the U.S.A. Buying this means that you are supporting your country’s economy. Lastly, by saying ‘there is a limited quantity,’ it creates a sense of urgency within the audience. It tells them that if they don’t buy it now, then it will all be sold out. When someone acts when they are rushed, they don’t think things through, which is why I put this line in. I want the customer to click purchase before they have time to think about it.

Apart from using explicit mottos, I also tried making the kite remote controller stand out by making subtle artistic choices. On the right side of the paper, I drew a restaurant called ‘Futuristic Steakhouse,’ while coloring it to make it look very rustic and historic looking. For the kite, however, I used blue because blue is usually associated with the future. The kite looks more high-end when it is compared to an old-looking building. Also, notice how I used a black pen instead of colored pencils when writing more formal statements, like dialogues or statistics. Black makes it look more serious and credible. Meanwhile, for the shorter slogans, I used bright colors to catch people's attention in a short amount of time.

In my advertisement I am trying to sell a Tie Basket to Zombies. The two persuasive appeals I used in my advertisement were Logos and Pathos. The advertisement shows Logos because it tells the audience that if you buy the Tie basket then you will fit in more in the human society. To prove this the advertisement states that “9/10 zombies who have bought the Tie Basket can now be seen with humans”. They fit in more and have made many new friends. The advertisement also demonstrates Pathos because the advertisement is trying to get the audience to feel sad but also hopeful. In the advertisement I asked the Zombies “Tired of looking scary and feeling left out?” This is supposed to make the Zombies feel sad remembering that they can’t fit in with humans. However, the advertisement also gives them hope that if they buy this then they can fit in and make new friends. Some other persuasive techniques I used in my advertisement were “Snob Appeal” and “Bribery”. In the advertisement I included a limited edition deal. If you buy a Tie Basket now then you can get a free button down shirt (to go along with the ties). However, that offer is only available until supplies last. This not only bribes the audience to buy the basket, but also to buy the basket now before the shirts run out. Finally, the advertisement also included the Snob Appeal because the ad suggests that if you buy a tie basket then you can hang out with humans and fit it thus making you better than the rest of the zombies and more like the humans. The advertisement included a huge drawing of the product to catch the eyes of the audience and also uses different colors to make reading the advertisement easier and more fun.

In my advertisement, I tried to utilize the rhetorical appeals of ethos and pathos to create a connection with my audience (couch potato). My product, Future Man, is a robot that helps couch potatoes enhance their relaxing experience through knowledge of various activities like snacking, sports-watching, etc… I used ethos through establishing the robot’s knowledge of these things that are important to a couch potato. I also used a celebrity endorsement from Mr. Potato Head to create a sense of credibility. Similarly, I used bold language like “heaven just got better” as a form of pathos. Another example of pathos is making the audience feel “seen”, as it is designed just for them and therefore creates a connection that the creator knows exactly what the consumer is looking for. This is important because it all goes toward achieving my purpose, to get the audience to buy my product.

For my ad, I was tasked to sell a future sword to vampires. To sell my product, I used ethos by claiming Dracula is trying to sell the product. Dracula is the most popular vampire in fiction, so, therefore, it brings credibility to the ad. I also used pathos by invoking fear and desperation. By claiming that vampires are hunted and are in danger of losing their homes, I sold the sword as a way for them to escape prosecution. I also sold the product as their only hope by stating that the product is capable of saving them from prosecution invoking pathos. I also used Avante Garde by stating that they will be ahead of time as they can travel ahead in time. I also used bribery by saying that if they buy the product, they can get one free. I also used black as my primary color to evoke a sense of gothic atmosphere. I used red as my secondary color to evoke a sense of power, as red represents the blood that vampires consume by overpowering other creatures. The teeth with blood eating the world represent dominance, and the gargoyle adds to the gothic atmosphere.
