I was based in Hawaii, but was able to serve in Papua New Guinea for two months.

During this time I was able to take a 9 month course that went through the whole Bible. This is where I began to take interest in reading and actually enjoy and comprehend information.

Reading Experiences &

Culture & Heritage:
My grandmother was a teacher and when we (my siblings) were in elementary school, she was our substitute teacher when our teachers were out. She would always tell us stories or read stories to us. Although I never really enjoyed reading, I did look up to her for her love of reading.

When I was younger, I liked to read mysteries and fictional books, but as I got older, I liked informational texts or things that had historical context. I still do like reading these!

In school, I did not like reading aloud because I thought I was not good enough. But as the years went on, I became more confident in my reading. When looking at the role of literacy in my life now, I can honestly say that I enjoy reading and writing. I think my dedication to consistently read and my involvement in college contribute to this factor.
