And even after they are rescued they are unable to return to how life was before the happenings on the island. I was also partly shocked by how they got saved before anything happened to Ralph.

To be honest, I didn't really like it that much. It almost felt "rushed" in a way and I think it might have been a better ending if the boys didn't get off the island. He wanted people to die, and he wanted it to be dramatic; he wanted to leave an impact. The issue here lies in that William Golding did not want to deal with the consequences of his ambitions. He wapped the whole 200 page story up in 2 pages, having no actual reason to end it except keeping it the typical length of school texts.
