Dino Fishing: Multiplying Unit Fractions
This is a 5th grade level appropriate game working on multiplying fractions. I believe this game would work for higher levels of special education as well. This game was found in the Learning Library on education.com. The website itself is free but it does require a paid subscription to be able to assign to student accounts or use progress tools.

I came across this idea on pathways2success.com. This is an upper grades appropriate way to start introducing our students to identify how they are feeling and how to be comfortable in their feelings.
The PASTA steps are:

P: Pause and breathe for a moment
A: Ask yourself how you feel.
S: Say the emotion words out loud or write them on paper.
T: Think about your feelings. Sit with them and let them be.
A: Ask yourself what you need. Say or list what could help you.

I think this would be a great way to start and end the day, to process feeling and help with transitioning both into the school day and out of it.

Strengths: This is a student lead assessment and it can help the teacher to set the tone of the day with knowledge of how the students are already feeling and then at the end of the day how the day affected the emotions of the class.

EasyCBM is a free web based progress monitoring tool. While it can be used for more than mathematics I am focusing on the mathematics portion here. This assessment tool is used for grades K-8 and is useful in all levels of special education. This assessment measures accuracy in specific math skills using a multiple choice setup. Tests are available in computation, application , numeracy, fractions, decimals, algebra and geometry.

Read Theory is a web based program for grade levels K-12. It is a free website that is easy to set up. A teacher can set up a class account and give each student an individual account. Students will start at the grade level of reading and the program will adapt to each students specific reading level. Not only does this program allow teachers to track progress and collect data, it also keeps students engaged with awards and competitions. This program promotes growth in fluency and accuracy to support understanding. It can be accessed at read theory.com

I discovered this idea on primarythemepark.com. This is a student driven self assessment of their own academic goals. It also teaches using SMART goals. BY teaching this we are showing students how to set realistic and measurable goals. This would be a great way to meet with students individually to help them be successful not only in class but it life. This is a healthy habit that can be developed.
