United Nations Sustainable Development Group's 2020 report identifies the key problems resulting from the war in Donbass: 10000 of civilians have been killed and 1.4 million were registered as Internally Displaced. The population left in the war-torn areas is in a dire need of humanitarian aid, as retired and disabled people constitute around 30% of the population in the zone of conflict. Damage to the infrastructure has affected the water supply for 1.4 million people. In addition, the unemployment rates have risen sharply, and large areas have been contaminated with landmines.

As it was identified by the UN, the conflict in Eastern Ukraine has led to 42000-44000 casualties, out of them 29500–33500 wounded. Heavy wounds require treatment, for example, implantation of prosthetic arms or legs. The modern bionic protheses can replace the majority of functions of a joint, but such medical mechanisms are very expensive, and the majority of refugees or war veterans cannot afford those. For example, a leg prothesis for commercial sale costs around 500 pounds, and bionic arms are even more expensive. In addition, every patient needs a limb of their exact size, and a long process of rehabilitation, both psychological and physical. British-Ukrainian Aid provides this help, for example, veteran Viktor Andriychuck has received a bionic arm with their help, and even managed to take part in Adaptive Athletes competition. With our support, the charity can help even more people.

If you are passionate about this problem and feel that you can help someone in need, you help BUAid via different ways. They accept donations and offer volunteer work in both Britain and Ukraine. As it was already mentioned, you can participate in the Christmas carols on the Trafalgar Square - the vent itself is free, but it promotes the cause of the charity. The donations are also accepted during the carols event. Another thing they propose is to offer your friends in the social media to support the charity as a gift to you. For more information, visit the charity's website: https://british-ukrainianaid.org
