Paraphrase is to sentences (on individual interpretations) as synonymy is to predicates on this way, is a sentence which expresses the same proposition as another sentence. in other words, paraphrasing involves taking a passage - either spoken or written - and rewording it. writers often paraphrase sentences and paragraphs to deliver information in a briefer way. when paraphrasing, it is important to keep the original meaning so that the facts remain intact. basically, you are writing something in your own words that still expresses the original idea. paraphrasing is common when writing an essay or research paper. it allows you to explain important ideas in your own writing style and focus on the information that is most useful in making your point. paraphrasing is slightly different than summarizing. when you summarize a passage, you focus on restating only the main idea in your own words. paraphrasing, on the other hand, aims to provide most of the information in a slightly condensed form. summaries are much shorter than the original passage, while paraphrasing can be shorter, longer or the same length.

There are different types of paraphrase. the first is the change of parts of speech, reaching from verbs and nouns to adjectives and adverbs are replaced with new parts of speech in this type of paraphrasing. example: the boy quickly ran across the finish line, seizing yet another victory. paraphrase:the quick boy seized yet another victory when he ran across the finish line. in this example we can see that many parts of speech are changed: the adverb quickly becomes the adjective quick, and the verb phrase with the gerund seizing becomes the verb seized.

second is the change of structure type, this kind of paraphrasing includes changing the sentence’s structure, sometimes creating a passivevoice from an active voice and vice versa. example: puppies were adopted by numerous kind souls at the puppy drive. paraphrase: many kind souls adopted puppies during the puppy drive. in this example, the object of the sentence (kind souls) becomes the subject with an active voice (adopted) rather than a passive voice (were adopted).

third is the reduction of clauses paraphrases reduces the number of clauses in a sentence, which can be interruptive or confusing, by incorporating the phrases into the sentence. example: while i understand where you’re coming from, and truly respect your opinion, i wish you would express yourself more clearly, like clara does. paraphrase: i understand where you’re coming from and respect your opinion, but i wish you would be more like clara and express yourself more clearly.

finally we can find the synonym replacement paraphrasing is one of the simplest forms of paraphrasing: replacing words with similar words, or synonyms. example: the older citizens were honored with a parade for those once in the military. paraphrase: senior citizens were honored with a march for veterans. in this example, many synonyms are used: older citizens are senior citizens, a parade becomes a march, and those once in the military refer to veterans.

Entailment

What is entailment?
Entailment is the relationship between two sentences where the truth of one (A) requires the truth of the other (B), a casual relationship between prepositions, which includes and goes beyond hyponymy.
Give three examples of entailment.
Example 1.

The sentence (A) The president was assassinated. entails (B) The president is dead. Another example of entailment can be found in the following pair of sentences.

Statement A: "I will turn 28 this year;"

Statement B: "I am currently living." Entailment is present here because the truth of A requires the truth of B. Entailment is related to the concepts of presupposition and implicature. Presupposition refers to a basic premise that is assumed to be true before entailment takes place.

Example 2., The question of whether I will turn 28 this year first presupposes that I am real. Regarding implicature, entailment differs from this concept in that implicature only means that the truth of A suggests, and does not require, the truth of B.

Example 3. The statement A that I am writing these words suggests the statement B that I am human.

Cup of tea

The idiom was used to discribe a person as in she’s my cup of tea beginning in the 1920s, meaning someone you have affinity with, this expression came from the UK

It is obvious that "tea" is such an iconic and representative drink in the UK, for which there are a lot of phrases related to this particular beverage, one of them being "it is my cup of tea" or in it's negative form "it's not my cup of tea"

This word caught our attention since at first because it is refering a drink when we hear a cup of tea, like a hot chamomile drink or just honey with lemon, but in this context the meaning is totally different. Here is used to talk about someone else, a person who is possibly important for the one talking. People or things with which one felt an affinity began to be called 'my cup of tea' in the 1930s.

This phrase is important for the English culture because it's part of the history and literature since the 20th century and is still being used to these days.
