Attending external events (like this one!) is allowing me to slowly build up a network of peers and colleagues who I can connect with on various topics. Informally, a colleague has continuously provided me with support since I started as an ED in a way that I recognize as good mentorship. She provides advice and guidance, but also pulls me into meetings with instructors and gives me space to listen, share, and grow. I was fortunate at my previous institution to have folks in the Centre who were very involved with a lot of the professional networks and would often invite members of our team to join different events/conferences/panels, etc. But without that I don't think I would know any of these resources (including this!) exist.
